My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Hi! Our names are Buddy and Bobby. We have a condition called Cerebellar Hypoplasia. This is when part of our brain, the cerebellar, was not fully developed in the womb due to our mother contracting distemper. This is why we have tremors and can be very uncoordinated. Our disease will not get worse and cannot be transmitted to any other animal. We are very loveable and need homes that will understand our need for special considerations. We can NEVER go outside because we are not as agile as most cats and cannot get away from predators. We can also fall off of high objects and might not be able to land on our feet. We are very friendly and also get along with dogs and other cats! If you are willing to accept our disability, please consider adopting us. We will make loyal, loving companions for your whole family! They are currently in long term foster care and meeting them will be coordinated with our foster family directly.

A note from their foster mom: Buddy and Bobby would be considered moderate, although their balance is considerably affected. A severe CH cat/kitten would have very limited ability to walk and will often drag it’s legs/body. All of our “special kittens” can eat on their own and use the litter box. Buddy and Bobby will often lie on their side when they use the box and need a low box. Mel and Petey stand up and I’ve seen both Buddy and Bobby stand up also. Actually, a Buda box, which is a covered box, but has a low walk in area with higher sides that they can lean on, would be great for them. Bobby and Buddy were on the bottle longer than the others and had to be taught to eat. They “peck” at their wet food, so I put it in a “mound” at the front of their dish. They also eat dry food and drink water in low dishes. CH kittens can lead a normal life if special considerations for their different abilities are taken by their owners. The condition does not get worse: in fact, I’ve seen that as they’ve gotten older, they’ve learned to accommodate their condition more and seem much better and more able to do things that they initially weren’t able to do. Their longevity is not affected by the condition. They would make wonderful companions for anyone willing to accommodate their different abilities. They love to be held and purr and purr. Prospective owners can feel free to call me to discuss the kittens and/or their condition further. Please contact the shelter to ask how to get in touch with me. ~Judy .
