Here's what the humans have to say about me:
If you think you have seen this handsome collie before, you are right. Arye was adopted from MWCR by a loving family when he was six months old, but due to family health issues and time demands, they were forced to make the hard decision to give him up. It is obvious that he has been well cared for and much loved.
Arye is a healthy, well behaved boy who is fully house trained and knows a variety commands including “sit,” “shake,” and “down.” His former family says that he will ring a bell to tell them when he needs to go out. Arye is crate trained, walks well on his leash and rides nicely in the car. He tolerates brief brushing sessions. He has a very fine, fluffy coat that gets matted very easily and leaves, twigs, etc. are always sticking to his tail and legs. His coat is very high maintenance, even by Collie standards, so he will need to be groomed professionally on a regular basis. He is very good about getting his nails clipped and sits very still without pulling his feet away. Of course no dog is perfect, and Arye does have a few quirks. He hates it when his family leaves and will tell them so by pointing his nose to the sky, channeling his inner wolf and howling. For this reason, he probably shouldn't live in a condo! He is eager to chase just about anything that moves, from cars to motorcycles to lawn mowers, and when he is in pursuit his recall vanishes. For his own safety it is essential that his forever home includes a fenced yard.
Arye loves children of all ages and is very easy going and gentle with them. He is friendly and polite with everyone he meets, greeting them with a wag and a smile and never jumping up on them. He has lived in harmony with cats and he gets along with most other dogs. He did have a negative reaction to a friend's lab, however, so if his forever home includes other dogs, he will need to meet them first. His foster home includes two senior collies and Arye gets along very well with them, regularly trying to entice them into a game or a romp. He is mildly protective of his food and water dishes – only with other dogs, never with people – and feeding him separately completely resolves this issue.
Arye is a loving, happy, easy going, collie boy who will fit beautifully into almost any living situation whether with a single retiree or a large, active family with other pets and children. He is fun loving and playful, but not excessively energetic. He is both smart and eager to please, so he learns quickly. He is gentle with children, tolerant of kitties, and playful with other dogs. He may not be the perfect dog, but he is very, very close!
