My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Romeo was caught in life threatening catch-22 situation. He was picked up as a stray but had a microchip. Law requires he be held for a certain number of days unless there are medical issues. The shelter was going to invoke extenuating medical circumstances – he had a badly lacerated tail – and was set to euthanize him within 24 hrs of his arrival. Since his hold time was not up, he was not able to go to rescue. We begged and pleaded to be allowed to save him and finally a caring shelter worker let us have him with the admonition that if they heard from the owner during the stray hold period, we might have to give him back. After Romeo was safe in foster care, the shelter heard from his owner who said she had given him away and did not want him back. He was now all ours!

We took Romeo to our vet to get his wounds looked at. It was too late for stitches but not too late for antibiotics. (His microchip contact told the shelter he had been bitten by a dog. Surprising what she knew about a dog she had supposedly given away). During his exam, it was found that Romeo also had two very badly infected ears. Within 24 hrs of beginning treatment for both his tail and ears, Romeo turned into a super happy little dog.

Romeo has nice short legs, a broad chest and the cutest little expression. He’s pretty darn irresistible. Romeo is extremely friendly with people. He greets everyone nicely. He was the only dog allowed to be out at Halloween. He wagged his tail at all the kids who came to the door trick or treating. Best of all Romeo does not bark at visitors because everyone is his friend.. He is also fine with the other dogs although his nose gets a little out of joint when new dogs get to sit in his foster mom’s laps. Given a few days, he comes around and loves to play with the newcomers.

Romeo had a brief bit of separation anxiety when he first arrived but that disappeared quickly.

Romeo has very short legs so his new home should not have any stairs

Romeo has been given all his vaccines and a dental cleaning. His tail and ears are now healthy too. If you are interested in Romeo, please fill out the adoption application at www.scdr.org and email Lindy at linla@comcast.net.
The tax deductible donation for Romeo is $150
