Story
Hi. Im Miguel and Im still waiting on my forever home. Im a 1-year-old, 35-lb mixed breed with a playful spirit, an athletic build, and a big question: how have I not been adopted yet?Im energetic and love to play, so Id do best with an active householdespecially if you already have doggie siblings who enjoy a good romp. I get along great with other pets of all sizes and make friends quickly. Basically, Im the kind of guy who shows up and instantly fits in.Inside the house, Im well-mannered, crate trained, and doing great on a leash. I understand routines, respect boundaries, and wont redecorate your home while youre gone.My past wasnt the easiest. I was seized from my previous home along with three other dogs when we were underweight and losing our fur. My coat is still growing back, but honestly? It just adds characterand proof of how far Ive come with good care and love.Im ready for my forever family now. I promise to bring joy, loyalty, and just enough silliness to keep life interesting. Apply to adopt me (Miguel!) at ricopetrecovery.org Adoption fee is $250 and he is fully vetted.

Story
My name is Cinder and I’m looking for my forever home. I’m 18 months old and a confident, curious, people-oriented girl with a big personality. I bond strongly with my humans and like to be involved in whatever they are doing. I’m affectionate and cuddly – I love snuggling on the couch and getting attention. I came to my foster home here in Columbus, OH, after surviving Parvo Virus. There were 11 of us who all got sick, but thanks to SIRA and a very kind vet who took us in after our breeder would not pay for treatment, we all survived! I had some fur loss, but it’s growing back nicely. Now I’m healthy, spayed and vaccinated, and weigh 19 lbs. I’m a good girl in the house – potty trained and I sleep through the night well. Foster dad says I’m super-smart. I’ve learned the routines and expectations here in my foster home really quickly like mealtimes, bedtime, and what we do when foster dad goes out. Predictable schedule and consistency really help me adapt. I’m not shy about expressing my opinions – and I have plenty of them. You will know if I find something objectionable. But I settle nicely if you reassure me. I love exploring my surroundings. I would be a great match for someone looking for an adventure buddy. Like a typical Shiba, I’m a natural door-bolter and escape artist, so my forever family should be super careful when opening doors and gates and take measures to prevent me getting loose and going on unsupervised adventures. I’m not fond of being left alone for long periods, so my perfect forever person would be someone who can spend time with me and who appreciates an attentive little shadow. I’d do well with an experienced dog person familiar with Shiba Inu personalities. There are other dogs here in my foster home, and I’m good with some of them. Because I’m a bold, spicy girl, I’d match best with laid-back, friendly dogs who don’t mind my confidence. Slow, gradual introductions will help, since I can be reactive through gates and barriers. If you live in the Midwest and are looking for a sweet and spicy girl to be your loyal companion and very best friend, visit www.savingshibas.com to apply to become an approved SIRA adopter. The application process helps confirm that we’d be a good match. Once approved, SIRA will introduce you to my foster dad so we can meet.

Story
My name is Mister Clean and I’m looking for my forever home. Why am I named after a bald guy? Well, I came to SIRA after being found lying in mud on the side of the road, emaciated and bald from a severe flea infestation. I was in bad shape. X-rays showed metal and food wrappers in my tummy – I was so hungry I ate anything! My ears were infected and I was very anemic. But once I got food and vet care, things got much better! My fur started growing back and my ears healed. And I put on weight – I’m about 28 pounds now. I am being fostered just north of Columbus, OH. SIRA thinks I’m about 10 years old. I’m great with other dogs and I love cuddling with my foster family. Yep, you heard that right. I’m a “fake Shiba” since I love to snuggle. My foster family was told that I may have a disc problem in my back and maybe something going on with my hips, but so far, nothing slows me down. I dart, spin, and dance my way through the house! Every time I come in from a potty break, I get the most exquisite zoomies. I pirouette, fling myself up on the couch, and then dance around the whole house. I love going on walks with my foster family, getting treats and belly rubs, and perching on my favorite chair. I’ll happily speak up and tell you off if you’re too slow to take me outside or if you’re not sharing your treats with me. I am fully house trained and I do fine when my foster family has to leave the house. Now that I’ve beaten the odds, the only thing I need is a forever family. My perfect forever home will have a nice comfy spot with a sunbeam to nap in and someone who will let me sit in their lap and give me a rub-down. If there’s another nice dog, that would be great, but I’d probably do fine as an only dog as long as you spend time with me. I’d do best with a securely fenced yard, but also enjoy leash walks. I'm neutered and vaccinated and ready to go! I haven’t lived with children, cats or small pets, so I don’t know how I’d be with them. If you live in the Midwest and want to give my “rags to riches” story its happy ending, I promise I’ll be your fun, smart, spunky very best buddy. Visit www.savingshibas.com/adopt to apply to become an approved SIRA adopter. The application process helps SIRA learn more about you to make sure we’ll be a good match. Once approved, SIRA will introduce you to my foster mom so we can meet. I would love that!

Story
Barb facts: -food motivated but also food protective -affectionate for a Shiba but wary of strangers. Loves belly pets. -previously got along with our elderly boy dog and has played well with our parent’s dogs. However, after our baby was born and our elderly dog died, she struggles to get along with our other, now also a senior Shiba. -historically only chewed lipsticks and tubes of hand lotion, until we had the baby and now only chews baby things. -is good on a leash and is the best version of herself when she gets walked regularly. -is a rescue who came to us afraid of crates and scared of being confined. Would NOT part with her were it not for the intense dynamic change in the household after the baby arrived. She is in a constant power struggle with our other elderly girl dog and with me, the mom. Our toddler loves her, but we cannot peacefully keep both our girls anymore. Our other one is elderly and needs care, so we considered rehoming Barb the easiest option.
