Story
Courtesy Post Clay is an affectionate and sweet 3-year-old Basset Hound who truly believes he’s a 10-pound lap dog, despite his 65-pound body. He loves to cuddle, enjoys long walks, and has a goofy, playful personality. His favorite toys are anything cloth—he’ll proudly carry around towels and loves sneaking off with socks to hide them. Clay is smart, routine-oriented, fully potty trained, and kennel trained. He does well around both dogs and cats and enjoys calm, structured environments. Clay forms deep bonds with his primary caregiver, and this has led to some protective behavior toward his female owner. When she is present, Clay has shown hostility toward his male owner. This has included growling, lunging,  but did not break the skin. Outside of those specific situations, Clay is gentle and loving. Because of this, Clay would thrive best in a single-owner home or with an adopter experienced with protective or resource-guarding behaviors and one committed to training. In the right environment, Clay has the potential to be an incredibly devoted and affectionate companion. No kids.   There is a $100 adoption fee.   Please email us at midwestdogrescuenetwork@gmail.com for an application.  All of our dogs are in private foster homes. We are not a shelter with hours. A visit can be arranged after an adoption questionnaire has been filled out and sent in. Please try to email first. We are all volunteers that work so we can not easily take or make phone calls.December 9, 2025, 11:32 am

Story
Brace yourselves for this adorable love bug! Meet Chopper! He’s a 1 year old, 32 lb Basset Hound mix shorty. He loves to run in the yard with his canine friends, and even though we saved him from the south he loves the snow. He loves dogs of all different sizes and isn’t phased by cats. He’s good with kiddos and walks well on a leash. Chopper knows how to use potty pads inside and is also going outside via the dog door. He’s catching on fast to housetraining as he's a smart boy. He is crate trained and will keep it clean overnight. He loves toys and chew sticks and is just a big ol’ love bug. He has the best personality… A match your energy kind of dog. Chopper is neutered, fully vetted and vaccinated, microchipped, dewormed, heartworm tested, and ready for his forever family. His adoption donation is $420. Please apply directly in the drop down menu on our website at https:// havenanimalrescuenebraska.org PLEASE SUBMIT AN APPLICATION AT: https://havenanimalrescuenebraska.org/adoption-application We do not have a facility. All of our animals are in volunteer foster homes. Once an application is pre-approved (contingent upon a home check) we will contact applicants that are a good match and set up a time for a meet. At that time we are happy to answer all of your questions. No inquiries prior to that please. All of our animals are spayed/neutered, examined by a vet, up-to-date on vaccinations, on heartworm and flea/tick preventatives, and microchipped. We adopt our animals as strictly inside companion pets. We will do a veterinarian reference check and a home safety check. We are located in Omaha, NE and we do not ship our animals. We are all volunteers so please be patient with us. Our requested adoption fees help go towards medical expenses, food, transportation, toys, and other supplies for our animals. We are a state licensed, 501c3 nonprofit rescue and the adoption donation may be tax deductible for you.  Thank you for choosing adoption!! December 8, 2025, 2:25 pm

Story
Pumpkin is an adorable 2-year-old mixed breed (born 2023).  This sweet girl is crate trained, dog and stranger friendly.  She's also friendly with kids of all ages.  Pumpkin would thrive in a home where she can be the only dog or paired with a larger, confident dog who matches her energy. She loves being outdoors and would make a wonderful companion for someone who has the space for her to roam, relax, and feel safe. Pumpkin is protective of her food at times and seems to guard more around small dogs.  She was a stray until she was rescued, so guarding is to be expected.  It will help if she has her own personal space for meals so she feels safe. The suggested adoption donation for Pumpkin is $400.00, which includes a lifetime of free relationship-based training for any behavioral problems (not obedience training). Muddy Paws is a 501c3 non-profit organization meaning that part of your donation MAY be TAX DEDUCTIBLE. We are a 100% volunteer rescue committed to giving animals a second chance at life. All donations go toward that mission. Adoption fees are the primary source of funding for the cost of veterinary care for our animals. In 2022 alone, we provided animal Healthcare totaling over $399,000 covered mainly through adoption fees.   Please Note: A Courtesy Post designates that an animal is still in the home of its owner and not in a Muddy Paws foster. This means that our exposure to the animal is limited since we only assist the owner in finding a new home for their pet. From time to time, owners find a new furever home for their pets outside of Muddy Paws Last Chance Rescue, and there is a delay in removing them from our site. We apologize if the Courtesy Post you apply to adopt is unavailable for adoption. Information about the adoption process: All adoptions require a completed ADOPTION APPLICATION. Once your application has completed our prescreen steps, we will put you in touch with the animal’s foster to see if you and the pet are a good match. If so, we will arrange a meeting for you and the animal. The adoptions for all of our animals will take place in the Omaha, NE area and must be done by the adoptive family in person. We do not ship or deliver. Please Note: We are a RESCUE, which is different from a shelter. We conduct veterinary and personal reference checks, and a Home Visit (Virtual in some cases) during the application approval process. We always select the right applicant for each animal, based on the animal’s needs. If you and the animal are not a good match, we will help you select another animal, or we will keep your approved application on file for 6 months.   To learn about Muddy Paws Last Chance Rescue or donate to our animals, please visit our website at MuddyPawsSecondChanceRescue.com or our Facebook Page Muddy Paws Second Chance Rescue Inc.   Alter Agreement: If the dog or cat you adopt is older than 6 months of age and not spayed or neutered, you will receive a voucher to alter the pet at Val Verde Animal Hospital or Omaha Animal Medical Group in Omaha, at no cost to you. Or you can alter the pet at your own vet and be reimbursed $100 for dogs, and $50 for cats, of total cost. If the dog or cat is younger than 6 months of age, the adopter will be responsible for the cost of altering the pet at the vet of their choice. If proof of alter is received by Muddy Paws prior to the pet turning 6 months of age, a reimbursement of $100 for dogs, and $50 for cats, will be sent to you to help cover expenses. All puppies and kittens MUST be spayed or neutered by 6 months of age. All dogs and cats MUST be spayed or neutered no later than one month after adoption is finalized. ##2590678##
