Meet Chestnut! 🐾 Chestnut is a handsome 3-year-old Basset Hound/Dutch Shepherd mix weighing about 40 pounds, and this sweet boy is ready to find a family of his very own! Chestnut was rescued from the euthanasia list at the Hesperia Animal Shelter in California, giving him the second chance he so deserved. Now he’s ready to leave his past behind and start his next chapter in a loving home. Chestnut is incredibly sweet with everyone he meets. He can be a little shy when first getting to know someone, but give him some patience and time to feel comfortable and you’ll quickly see his gentle, affectionate personality come through. Once he knows you’re a friend, he’s an absolute sweetheart. He’s friendly with other dogs when given proper introductions and would likely enjoy having a canine companion who respects his pace while everyone gets acquainted. Chestnut hasn’t been introduced to cats yet, but if his future household includes feline siblings, we can introduce him to cats to help determine whether they may be a good match. Chestnut would benefit from continued leash training, so his future family should be prepared to spend some time helping him build those skills. With patience, consistency, positive reinforcement, and plenty of encouragement, we think this smart boy will continue to gain confidence and learn what’s expected of him. Because Chestnut can initially be shy, we recommend a home with kids ages 8 and older who can be patient with him and give him the space and time he needs to settle in. Meet Haley ❤️🐾 Haley is an 8 year old, 48 lb. Basset Hound with the sweetest personality and A LOT to say. 😂❤️ Haley originally came from a high-kill shelter in California, where she was on the euthanasia list. She was adopted, but unfortunately her adopter had to surrender her to The Asher House because Haley and the cat were not a good match. Haley is incredibly affectionate, loving, playful, and very, very vocal. She LOVES to howl. 😂 If you walk into another room and she doesn’t see you for five minutes, you’d better believe she’s going to celebrate your return like you’ve been gone for five years. She’ll greet you with excitement, love, and, of course, a beautiful Basset Hound howl. She loves going for long walks, hiking, playing, and just being with her people. She really is such a special dog. Haley does well with other dogs, but she can resource guard, so if she goes to a home with other dogs, her family will need to be comfortable managing that. She would also be perfectly happy being the only dog in the home and getting all the love and attention for herself. Because we want Haley to always feel safe and comfortable, we believe she would do best in a home without young children. Kids 11 and older would be a better fit. She also needs a cat-free home. Haley has been through a lot, but none of it has taken away her sweetness or her love for life and people. Louis is an incredibly lovable little puppy with the sweetest heart and the funniest personality. Around 6 months old, he is already full of charm and has this happy, goofy energy that makes people fall in love with him instantly. He’s playful and curious and always seems ready for the next little adventure. Louis loves toys, loves other dogs, and loves having fun. He gets so excited during playtime and has the cutest bouncy little movements that make him look like a tiny cartoon character. He can turn absolutely anything into entertainment and somehow makes even simple puppy antics feel hilarious. OH. MY. GOODNESS. Can we all just take a second to appreciate these ears?! Seriously... they're soft, floppy, covered in the cutest little spots, and somehow make Stella Strudel even more irresistible than she already is. Add in her longer, low-to-the-ground body, those soulful eyes, and her love for climbing into your lap, and you've got a puppy that's basically impossible not to fall in love with. Stella may be a little shy when you first meet her, but give her a little kindness, a few sweet words, and before you know it, she's handing out kisses and acting like she's known you forever. Whatever breeds came together to create this adorable girl, they gave her those irresistible floppy ears, her unique low-rider build, and the sweetest personality you could ask for. Stella is the perfect mix of playful and affectionate. She loves playing with toys, exploring the world around her, and joining in on fun with her dog friends, but she's just as happy curling up in your lap afterward. If you're sitting on the floor—or honestly anywhere within reach—don't be surprised if Stella decides your lap is exactly where she belongs. She's incredibly affectionate and absolutely loves giving kisses once she's comfortable. Watching her come out of her shell is one of the most rewarding parts of getting to know her. She currently lives in a foster home with multiple dogs, including a large dog and a smaller Dachshund/Chihuahua mix, and gets along wonderfully with both. She's also done great meeting new dogs and has a lovely play style that's more about romping alongside her friends than playing too rough. She'll happily join in for a wrestling match every now and then, but she's naturally a gentle girl who enjoys simply being part of the fun. We think she'd love another friendly, playful dog in her forever home, but she'd also do well as your one-and-only companion as long as she has plenty of love. Stella is also fostered with cats and has done wonderfully. While they don't spend a ton of time interacting, she's always respectful when they do cross paths. She also met our house cat, Biggie, and completely won us over by greeting him with the sweetest little kisses. We'd definitely consider her cat-friendly based on what we've seen. Treats are another one of Stella's favorite things... and trust us, this girl has quite the nose! She can hear a treat bag crinkle from what feels like a mile away and is more than happy to come see what goodies you've got. She also loves toys and enjoys carrying them around or entertaining herself during playtime. Stella is crate trained, comfortable in her kennel, and settles in quietly when it's time to relax. She's still working on potty training, so her future family will need to continue helping her build those good habits with consistency, patience, and routine as she grows. Like any young puppy, Stella is still learning about the world around her. She'll thrive with a family that's committed to continuing her socialization, training, and confidence building. The beautiful thing about Stella is that every day you get to watch her confidence grow just a little bit more, and it's incredibly rewarding to see.
