Meet Mama Lamesa! 🌸🐾
A gentle, devoted mama who is finally getting her chance to be someone’s beloved companion!
Meet Lamesa, a beautiful Miniature Australian Shepherd mix, possibly with some Beagle, who has overcome a difficult beginning and is now discovering how wonderful life can be.
Lamesa came to Cactus Ranch Rescue from the Rio Grande Valley, where she had spent her life tied outside and repeatedly having puppies. Sadly, many of her babies were given away far too young, without proper veterinary care or the opportunity to remain with their mother. When Lamesa entered our care, she was accompanied by her two remaining puppies, Cisco and Odessa.
Now safe in foster care, Lamesa is showing us what an exceptionally sweet little dog she truly is.
Lamesa is calm, quiet, gentle, and incredibly well-mannered. She enjoys affection, appreciates a predictable routine, and has been doing wonderfully adjusting to life indoors.
Her foster family reports that she has had no accidents in the house or her crate! She waits patiently for her meals, walks well on a leash, and has even started showing off a playful side with occasional bursts of zoomies!
While Lamesa is generally laid-back, she is surprisingly fast and has a strong curiosity about the world beyond her yard. Her foster family has observed her checking fence lines and searching for possible exits.
Because of this, a securely fenced yard and careful escape prevention are especially important. She should wear a properly fitted, escape-resistant harness or martingale collar during walks and always be supervised outdoors.
Lamesa does respond when called in her secured foster yard, but her future family should not rely on recall alone in an unsecured environment.

Lamesa would thrive in a patient, loving household where she can enjoy the safety and consistency she has been missing.
A securely fenced yard is strongly preferred, and her adopters must be committed to preventing accidental escapes. She would benefit from continued positive reinforcement training and an established daily routine.
After spending so much of her life raising puppies and surviving outdoors, Lamesa deserves a future centered around her own happiness.
Her days of being used for puppies are over. Now it’s her turn to be loved, spoiled, and cherished for the rest of her life. ❤️
