Story
Meet Ben: A Loving Bearded Collie in Need of a Home Ben is a charming 2-year-old bearded collie weighing in at 40 lbs. He’s up to date on all his vaccinations, microchipped, neutered, and heartworm negative. Despite a rough start, Ben has a lot of love to give and is looking for a forever home where he can thrive. Ben’s Journey Ben's story began when he was abandoned and taken in by animal control. The chaos and fear he experienced led to a misunderstanding—when someone attempted to tighten a collar around his neck, he nipped in self-defense. This incident almost cost him his life, as he was scheduled for euthanization. Thankfully, a compassionate older lady saw the potential in Ben and rescued him, keeping him safe until he could be transferred to Hot Paws and then to BMAR. Ben’s Personality and Traits Ben is a friendly and affectionate dog who gets along well with people and other dogs. Although he has shown some food aggression, feeding him separately has been an effective solution. While he enjoys the company of other dogs, Ben has a tendency to chase cats, although he has never harmed them. Special Considerations No Children: Due to his past experience, Ben may nip when he feels scared, so a home without young children would be best. Food Aggression: Ben should be fed separately to avoid any issues. Handling: Ben is more comfortable with a slip lead rather than a collar, as he does not like anything tightened around his neck and needs to feel uncornered. Secure Environment: He does well within a secure fence and crates comfortably. Ideal Home for Ben We believe Ben would thrive in a home with an experienced adopter who understands his needs and can provide him with the stability and care he requires. His new family should be patient, understanding, and preferably have experience with collies or similar breeds. If you are a collie lover and have the skills and heart to welcome Ben into your home, you’ll be rewarded with a loyal and loving companion. Please consider giving Ben a chance to be part of your family.
