Story
Meet Freya, a stunning 4-year-old, 50-pound Norwegian Elkhound who embodies everything people love about this ancient and noble breed. With her soft coat, expressive eyes, and gentle spirit, Freya is one of those dogs who quietly wins your heart before you even realize it’s happening. She can be shy and a little nervous when meeting new people, but once she understands that you’re kind and safe, she opens up beautifully. Freya quickly becomes a devoted companion who wants to stay close, soak in affection, and share her sweet, loving nature. Those tender moments—when she melts into you after hearing she’s a “pretty girl”—are just priceless. Freya enjoys toys and balls, though she prefers her own style of play. Fetch isn’t her passion, but she loves batting her ball around, scooping it up, and prancing proudly with it. A securely fenced yard is ideal for her, giving her space to explore, run, and show off her adorable zoomies. Like many Elkhounds, she thrives in cooler weather and will happily go in and out of the door for fresh air as often as you’ll allow. This smart girl is both crate trained and potty trained. She absolutely loves spending time outdoors with her people and finds the world endlessly fascinating—especially birds, squirrels, and anything that moves just fast enough to keep her attention. She has seen a cat in her foster home and is quite intrigued and focused; we are happy to continue cat-testing for any adopter who needs clarity. Norwegian Elkhounds are known for their intelligence, loyalty, confidence, and strong bond with their families. Freya is a wonderful example of all these qualities and is ready to give her heart to someone who will appreciate her gentle soul and steady devotion. Story
Sometimes it’s hard to understand how the world can fail animals the way it does. How does a stunning pair of 7-month-old, purebred German Shepherd sisters end up wandering as strays in a quiet rural Tennessee town? Yet that’s exactly how Luna’s story began.  Luna is the more shy and observant of the two sisters, but her joyful spirit shines through immediately. At 46 pounds, she already carries herself with a calm, sweetnes that tells you what a great companion she will make a family.   She walks beautifully on a leash, is crate trained, and rides like a pro in the car. Despite everything she’s been through, Bella remains happy, affectionate, and easy to connect with. She lives peacefully alongside cats and dogs of all sizes and blends into new environments with impressive ease. Luna is not hyper or unruly — she is thoughtful, observant, and ready to learn. With continued confidence-building and positive reinforcement, she will grow into an incredible adult German Shepherd, likely reaching 70–75 pounds.  Luna and her sister Bella were never claimed, and after waiting weeks with no one coming for them, they were released into the care of Critter Cavalry Rescue. We made them a promise — to find them experienced, loving, German Shepherd-savvy homes where they can thrive. A fenced yard is required, as well as adopters committed to gentle guidance, training, and building trust. Luna is a wonderful fresh young life  ready to be molded into a loyal, well-mannered companion.  She and Bella are ready to be home for Christmas — warm beds, loving people, and a future they deserve.       Please contact Critter Cavalry Rescue at ccrnewengland@gmail.com if you are interested in adopting our special. Story
Meet Silas, our gorgeous purebred Norwegian Elkhound puppy who is already stealing hearts Born at the end of October, 2025, Silas weighed 14 pounds as of 12/25—and this handsome boy is definitely going to grow into a big, impressive guy, likely around 60 pounds when full grown. Silas spent his early weeks exactly how puppies should—with his mama and littermates, learning important dog-to-dog skills and building confidence through play and nurturing. Now that he’s with us, he’s beginning the next chapter of his life: discovering how wonderful people can be and learning what it means to be part of a family. Because Silas didn’t have much hands-on human interaction early on, he can be a little shy at first, but don’t let that fool you. Once he warms up, his playful, joyful personality shines through. He loves running around, wrestling with other puppies, and—best of all—playing with real toys for the very first time! Watching him discover simple joys like toys, grass, and sunshine has been incredibly rewarding. True to his breed, Silas adores the outdoors. Norwegian Elkhounds are known for their outdoorsy nature, and Silas is no exception. He loves being outside, rolling in the grass, soaking up the sun, and just having fun, fun, fun! He is doing well learning to use pee pads and is also beginning to understand outside potty breaks. With continued patience, consistency, and love, he will thrive and blossom into an amazing companion. Silas will be ready for adoption in mid-January.  A fenced yard is required, as this active, happy boy will need space to safely explore and play. If you’re interested in giving Silas the loving home he deserves, please email    Critter Cavalry Rescue at ccrnewengland@gmail.com Silas is ready to bond deeply with his people and grow into the loyal, fun-loving Elkhound he was meant to be.
