Story
Meet Freya, a stunning 4-year-old, 50-pound Norwegian Elkhound who embodies everything people love about this ancient and noble breed. With her soft coat, expressive eyes, and gentle spirit, Freya is one of those dogs who quietly wins your heart before you even realize it’s happening. She can be shy and a little nervous when meeting new people, but once she understands that you’re kind and safe, she opens up beautifully. Freya quickly becomes a devoted companion who wants to stay close, soak in affection, and share her sweet, loving nature. Those tender moments—when she melts into you after hearing she’s a “pretty girl”—are just priceless. Freya enjoys toys and balls, though she prefers her own style of play. Fetch isn’t her passion, but she loves batting her ball around, scooping it up, and prancing proudly with it. A securely fenced yard is ideal for her, giving her space to explore, run, and show off her adorable zoomies. Like many Elkhounds, she thrives in cooler weather and will happily go in and out of the door for fresh air as often as you’ll allow. This smart girl is both crate trained and potty trained. She absolutely loves spending time outdoors with her people and finds the world endlessly fascinating—especially birds, squirrels, and anything that moves just fast enough to keep her attention. She has seen a cat in her foster home and is quite intrigued and focused; we are happy to continue cat-testing for any adopter who needs clarity. Norwegian Elkhounds are known for their intelligence, loyalty, confidence, and strong bond with their families. Freya is a wonderful example of all these qualities and is ready to give her heart to someone who will appreciate her gentle soul and steady devotion. Story
The rescue story of our perfect German Shepherd boy called Aries as told by his foster mom. He is about 6-7 years and just under 80 pounds: Aries is probably the happiest dog I’ve ever had! He has a lot to celebrate and I think he knows it… I heard that a GSD was at a full local “kill” shelter and made up my mind to rescue him when I heard he had 1 more day. When I went to the shelter to pick him up, his demeanor was to maintain his distance. You could tell he was confused and on his back foot about where he was and why. Then he got a whiff of my farm boots and the great outdoors and his expression changed.Upon arrival at my farm, his personality came alive. I turned him loose in a big grassy field and he ran and sniffed and explored, always coming back to check in with me to make sure I was ok with his enthusiasm!!Since that day he has never looked back. The freedom and carefree abandon he is experiencing is evident in his happy eyes and tail wags. His best friends are two Heelers who he frolics with for hours. His most favorite toy is a big blue ball that he happily plays with when everyone else is resting. Every morning and evening when I feed him he expresses gratitude with wags and a loving lick or two to my face. The best situation for him would be a home with a big yard and lots of room to run and play. He is is a mature and settled, calm dog who has thrived here with me and his new dog friends. He prefers no cat friends!     If you would like to know more please write to Critter Cavalry Rescue at ccrtennessee@gmail.com      PLEASE NOTE:  Our dogs are transported from Tennessee to meeting places in the states where we have posted.  Further information about us is given on our Adopt-A-Pet site.  The adoption fees vary and will be provided as well as noted on the application you receive.  Contact us at 615-661-5333 or ccrnewengland@gmail.comNovember 13, 2025, 12:29 am

Story
Shibby is a great dog, very sweet. She is not social with dogs but is not aggressive and gets along with them. Gets along with kids. Very quiet for the most part only barks if someone is at the door to alert. Does bark at some not all strangers but again not aggressive whatsoever. Only eats dog food for the most part so beware that if you give her house food it may not sit well with her. Does not stare while you eat. She normally waits to be walked to poop or pee but lately sometimes she can't hold it for long. Shibby needs a place of her own or to be outside preferably most of the day given her inability to sometimes hold her pee. Shibby is very affectionate and loves to give affection. Shibby is relaxed and of low energy so you dont have to worry about her needing a lot of walking or playing just a mild amount to keep her fit. Shibby just needs the place where she could be free. If you have the space and the love and care she needs she'll be a perfect fit in your home.
