Story
Meet Copper! Copper is a very sweet, playful guy! He is approximately 4 years old, and at his last vet visit weighed in at 60 pounds. We think Copper probably has some Australian Shepherd, along with several other breeds including possibly Belgian Shepherd, Greyhound or Carolina dog. Copper is a beautiful and happy boy. He’s lucky to be alive! Copper came to us from the shelter at a time when he was minutes from losing his life because he had an upper respiratory infection. We are so glad he is with us now, and he is in a training program getting ready for his forever home! Copper does well in a crate, he also does well on a leash. Copper would love to be a hiking or running buddy! His foster mom said he is doing well at learning house training. Copper loves to play with his doggy friends especially tug-of-war with the big rope toys and will do wonderful at a daycare or dog park with other active and playful dogs! Interested in becoming a forever home for Copper? Fill out our online adoption application: http://www.friendswithfourpaws.org/adoption-form.html This is the first step in our process, and we don't go any further without an application. Find more adoptable pets, news and information on Instagram @friendswithfourpaws or our Facebook page Friends with Four Paws. We put a lot of time and energy into processing our adoptions to find our babies the best fit home for them and you. Please do not submit an application if you are not serious about adopting Copper. We are so excited to work with you to find you a new forever friend, and Copper the perfect forever home, and appreciate you working with us. For immediate consideration, please attach your application to the initial inquiry to help us expedite the process. Our adoption fee is $175. This includes their spay/neuter surgery, full (age appropriate) vaccinations, microchip insertion and registration, deworming, heartworm testing and prevention, flea and tick prevention and travel expenses. All of our dogs are rescued from local shelters and the general public. Each dog is then placed in a foster home where he/she is kept for quarantine, to ensure if the dog gets sick it can receive proper treatment. We have foster homes in the NJ/NY area waiting to receive their fosters. Once an animal has received an application or there's an adopter interested, we make arrangements for transport. If a dog is already in foster care in NYC/NJ, an adopter will be put in touch with the foster home AFTER an application is being processed. Thank you in advance for your patience with our process and for making adoption YOUR option!

Story
Bear is a 7-year-old German Shepherd weighing about 100 pounds. He is up to date on his vaccinations. Bear is house-trained, knows several commands, and loves spending time with his people. He's an energetic dog who enjoys playing fetch, going for walks, and riding in the car. After a day of activity, he's just as happy to curl up beside you and be your favorite snuggle buddy. Bear would do best with an active owner or family who can give him the exercise and attention he enjoys. While he hasn't lived with other pets or children in my home, he is very friendly and loves playing with the young boy who lives across the street. If you're looking for a devoted companion who is equal parts adventure partner and cuddle buddy, Bear may be the perfect match for you.

Story
He's crate trained and house trained, and he's full of energy! He would thrive with someone who enjoys taking daily walks or has a large, fenced backyard where he can run and play. Please note: He has never lived with children or other dogs, so a home without kids or other pets would likely be the best fit. He would do best with an owner who has the time to provide regular exercise and companionship.

Spayed or Neutered,
Story
My name is Lean. I’m a young German Shepherd looking for a very special home with someone who understands dogs like me. I came to the shelter as a stray, so not much is known about my past. What the staff has learned is that I’m not the kind of dog who instantly trusts everyone I meet. I can be selective about the people I let into my circle, and I’ll need an experienced owner who understands how to work with strong-willed, intelligent German Shepherds. German Shepherds are known for their loyalty, and once we build a bond, that connection can be incredibly rewarding. I just need someone who is willing to take the time to earn my trust and help me feel secure. Because of my needs, I’m looking for a home that can provide: ✔️ Experience with challenging or behaviorally complex dogs ✔️ Patience and consistency ✔️ Structure and clear boundaries ✔️ A commitment to helping me succeed I’ve already taken care of some important things: ✔️ Neutered ✔️ Microchipped ✔️ Up-to-date on my vaccinations I’m not the right fit for every home, and that’s okay. The shelter wants to find the right match for me—someone who understands that trust takes time and that every dog deserves a chance to be understood. If you have experience with German Shepherds and are looking for a dog who will benefit from a patient, knowledgeable handler, talk with the shelter staff about me. They can help determine whether we’d be a good match. Love, Lean
