Story
Welcome NICO! Because nothing screams “Papillon or small dog rescue” like a “Mini” Bernadoodle. *giggle* HOUSE TRAINING WILL BE A WORK IN PROGRESS!!! If you have a busy work/social life, he is NOT the dog for you. (Now that I have your attention – please read to the end!) Bought from an online puppy store, one would believe that his mama was likely stressed during pregnancy, which affects a puppy’s developing nervous system. Most puppies learn during the neonatal stage to keep their nest clean & soil outside of it, but Nico did not have this ‘life lesson’. His previous owner truly tried all the textbook housebreaking techniques: watching him closely, using crates/containment, structure… but because Nico is such an anxious little guy, confinement actually amplified his stress instead of helping it. By the time he came into rescue, he was a worried, overwhelmed mess with zero ability to regulate his emotions — or his bladder. Have you ever gotten so excited or nervous that you suddenly needed to run to the bathroom? That is Nico. His bladder is directly tied to his emotional state. Treating a UTI and addressing a bacterial infection, coupled with weeks of decompression, confidence building (hearing more “yay’s!” than “noooo’s”), a bit of routine, and some training — including learning to boop the bells on the door when he wants out — have genuinely improved his bladder control. Nico is doing well with short bursts of being left alone, currently at about a two hour duration during the day. Overnight, with you in his line of sight while in his crate, he can hold it for about 4-5 hours. His ideal home is with someone who naturally comes and goes — not gone 8 hours a day, but also not home 24/7. Small outings create healthy independence and support his emotional development. Mini Bernadoodles can range from 20 pounds to 60 pounds. Nico is 5 months old & currently weighs 18 pounds so I would guess he’ll be around 50 fully grown. Be mindful that he will need to be groomed about every 6-8 weeks (he’s already seen our groomer twice & she said he is perfect). He is a playful pup that loves playing with other dogs & loves being near you although he’s not currently a snuggle pup per say. He is neutered, chipped & current on all of his vaccines for the year. Puppies are a lot of work. Nico just brings a little bit MORE work into the mix BUT with the right style of training in a calm’ish home, I truly believe that he will shine bright & be the bestest little adventure buddy ever. 📍 Our adoption radius is 150 miles from Jacksonville, FL. All other pets in the home must be spayed/neutered and up to date on vaccinations and heartworm prevention. Want to be considered to be Nico’s family? Story
Rosie is a wonderful dog. She loves people (no stranger danger). She is gentle with children and animals. Does good with other dogs. She’s been in the family since she was puppy. She would love a family that is low-key. She isn’t high energy and prefers to lay in the yard watching the children play. She was a farm dog and did well with chickens but now she prefers humans to watch over. I would love for her to go to a family with children.
