Story
Meet Jax, a smart, high-energy guy looking for an active home that can keep up with him. Surrendered through no fault of his own, Jax simply wasn’t the right match for his previous owner’s lifestyle. He’s happiest when he has plenty of physical exercise, mental enrichment, and time outdoors—especially in the winter, which he loves.Jax greets familiar people with a soft, wiggly body and happily accepts his leash to head out for adventures. He walks fairly well and checks in often, though he can get excited and may pull or become a bit jumpy and mouthy when overstimulated. He knows several cues, including sit, down, shake/paw, and responds reliably to his name. He’s extremely food motivated, making him a great candidate for continued training and positive reinforcement work. With new people, Jax may bark loudly at first and can be hesitant, but toss him a few treats and he quickly decides you’re a friend. He has shown he can greet strangers politely with a loose, wagging body once he warms up. He has also met another respectful dog and interacted appropriately, suggesting he could do well with calm, well-matched canine companions given proper introductions.Jax does have a history of struggling with restraint and handling of his paws, ears, and mouth, and may panic if he feels held in place. He will need an experienced adopter committed to cooperative care training and muzzle training to help him feel safe during grooming and veterinary visits. Since arriving at the shelter, he has made tremendous progress and is now much more comfortable being leashed and handled.Jax would do best in an active home with sturdy, dog-savvy older kids. Cats are unknown but may be possible with proper introductions. He’s a bright, affectionate dog who thrives on treats, attention, and engagement. With continued socialization and guidance, Jax has all the potential to be a loyal, fun-loving companion ready to take on the world by your side.
