Story
Meet Jemma! She is a middle-aged Bichon with a soft spirit and a very sweet heart. She does well with other dogs and has a calm, gentle presence. Jemma was rescued from a neglectful breeding situation in Arkansas during freezing temperatures, where her only purpose had been to produce puppies. Thankfully, that chapter of her life is over. Now safe, Jemma is learning what trust and kindness truly mean. She prefers a slow, gentle approach and will thrive in a calm, peaceful environment. Jemma will need patience and time to open up as she learns how to be her own dog and discovers the joys of life as a loved pet in a real home. Beneath her shy demeanor is a sweet girl who wants nothing more than comfort, consistency, and love. With a patient, understanding family, Jemma will continue to blossom and become a devoted companion. If you’re looking for a gentle soul who deserves a quiet, loving home, Jemma may be the perfect match

Story
I am a breeder-release dog, and my past hasn’t been the easiest. I spent most of my life living in a crate and didn’t get much chance to learn what it means to be part of a family or to trust people. Because of that, the world can feel a little big and scary to me at first. I may be shy and unsure when we first meet, but underneath I am a gentle soul who truly wants love — I just don’t fully understand it yet. I’m learning every day that kind hands bring comfort, soft voices mean safety, and I don’t have to be alone anymore. I will need a patient home that will go slow with me and let me come out of my shell at my own pace. With time, kindness, and consistency, I promise you will get to watch something very special — a dog discovering happiness and love for the very first time.

Story
Meet Solstice, a 4-year-old Bichon Frise who came to Big Dog Ranch after being rescued from a puppy mill in Missouri. Her past life offered very little in the way of kindness or human connection, so she’s learning—slowly and gently—that people can be safe and loving. Because of her background, Solstice is very shy and timid. Sudden movements or loud noises easily frighten her, and she is considered a flight risk. She will need a calm, patient adopter who has prior experience with dogs, particularly shy or fearful ones. Solstice has a low energy level and would thrive in a peaceful home with consistent routines and minimal chaos. She’s good on a leash, gets along well with other dogs, and is hypoallergenic—making her a great fit for someone sensitive to allergens. Due to her fearfulness and history, Solstice is not suitable for a home with children. However, she would do well with a senior or a quiet individual or couple in an apartment or condo setting. With time, patience, and understanding, Solstice has the potential to blossom into a sweet and loyal companion. She just needs someone who can meet her where she is—and help her feel safe enough to grow!
