Story
Howdy, partner! I'm Cletus! Intake type: seized/surrender D.O.B: 12/1/19 Gender: male Breed: black and tan coon hound Weight: 63 lbs My most recent owner’s life went 'n changed on ‘em, 'n suddenly I found myself here at the shelter, wonderin' when I'll get to leave. It’s a bit loud in here for a fella like me 'n I'd much ratha be cozied up on someones couch, but in the mean time, my shelter family is doin' their best to make me feel at home durin' my stay. Now, I’ll be honest with ya, I’m a nervous nelly when it comes to meetin' new folks. I'm a "slow 'n steady" kinda guy who needs a bit of time to take everythin' in. Once that "stranger danger" feelin' starts fadin' away, I'll start to open up 'n show ya the real me. I’m a sweet, goofy boy who just wants a family to love me unconditionally, ya know? Heck, I may even get to actin' like a gosh darn fool sometimes when I'm fully comfortable with ya, just to see ya smile! I tend to pick my right-hand man or woman 'n stick to ‘em like a burr on a wool sweater! My shelter family reckons I didn't get much of what ya'll would call a "social education" growin' up, so when the world starts feelin’ a bit too big or scary for me, I’ll be lookin’ for my person to hold me 'n tell me it’s all gonna be alright. Now, I’ve gotta tell you, I’m a hound through 'n through 'n us hound dogs are built for country livin'. We aren't meant for city livin' in those things ya'll call apartment buildins. I want me a nice cozy home out in the country with a big yard where I can do what I do best, put my nose to work 'n sniff to my hearts content 'n sing my favorite song, the "Hound Dog Holler" without the neighbors gettin' their feathers all in a ruffle! I’ve also gotta mention that my previous family said I’m a bit particular about my meals. Life taught me that if ya find somethin' good, ya better hold onto it tight, so I can be a bit protective of my bowl. I’m lookin' for a family that will respect a man’s right to eat in peace, cause a full belly feels a whole lot better when ya aren't worried someone's gonna try 'n take ya meal away from ya, ya know?! My shelter family 'n I have a good understandin' on that, so we ain't had no issues, but they reckon my new family should be willin' to work on buildin' trust with me over my grub, just incase I accidentally get somethin' I shouldn't have, ya know? I've lived with other dogs, 'n cats before. My previous owner said I can be a bit unsure of other pups at first, but I reckon I could make pals if we take it nice 'n slow. As for cats, they said I’ll give 'em a good chase 'n bark cause I'm curious about 'em little critters, but once I get to know 'em I'll settle down. I reckon most cats won't appreciate my approach, so my shelter family reckons it would be best to go to a home with dog-savvy feline friends or my new family will need to take it nice 'n easy with introducions to any cats in the home. I'd do best with children 12+ years old who are able to understand 'n respect my boundaries. As long as the young'ins understand when a fella is needin' some space, I'm sure we will become good ole buddies! Heck, maybe we'll find ourselves gettin' into some Bo 'n Luke Duke inspired shenanigans! Of course, a formal introduction (meet 'n greet) is required if ya have any pups or kiddos in ya home to be sure we are a good match. I’ve spent a lot of my life lookin’ over my shoulder, but I’m ready to start lookin’ forward. My heart's just achin’ to belong to someone again. I just need a kind 'n patient soul to tell me I’m safe 'n a quiet place to finally call home. I’ve got lots of love saved up in here, ya know? I’m just waitin’ for the right person to come along. https://www.hornellanimalshelter.org/Adoptionprocessandfees
