Story
Are you looking for an IMPERFECT dog, but one who:
Lives life to the fullest
Loves to cuddle and interact with his "pack"
Makes you laugh every day
Is highly trainable
If so, Howie might be the dog for you!
Howie loves to run and play. He chases squirrels and other scents outside and plays with other dogs in the household. Over time in his foster home Howie has learned how to be more balanced when playing with the other dogs (less dominating/humping, more running and wrestling and overall more calmness). He's a great mix of energy/playfulness and snuggling/calmness.
There is nothing Howie loves more than to lay on or against his people (or, if people aren't available he will try to lay near other animals in the home). He's a snuggle bug and it's adorable, as you can see from some of his photos. If Howie isn't being entertained he will entertain himself - rolling around on this back with a toy, so engaged by his own fun that he sometimes falls off the couch and doesn't seem to notice! He bounds around on his foster family's pool cover bouncing, running, jumping, and playing with acorns as if there is nothing else in the world that could be nearly as much fun. He does the "Scooby Doo scramble" if he hears something exciting happing in another room or outside, and his foster family is constantly amused. You can't possibly go a day without smiling or laughing with Howie in the house. Howie quicky learned how to sit and wait for the things he wants (to go outside, get out of his crate, eat his meals, etc.) and, with patience, is finally house trained in his foster home (changes are stressful, and moving into a new home will require establishing rules in that environment).
Don't get us wrong, Howie has flaws. He came to use with separation anxiety and initially broke out of his crate when left alone. With medication (only $8-$12 per month), good chew treats, and a strong crate, he is now able to relax when left home alone (we do not recommend a home where Howie will be left alone consistently for several hours a day, but once in a while is fine). He can climb a chain link fence but only does so when he wants to get near his people, never to take off and run the town. He has never escaped a six foot privacy fence. There are a few, very manageable, things to work on (confidence with new dogs and people, politeness with tasty food if other dogs are around), but Howie is highly trainable and has no desire to harm other animals or humans. Keep in mind the 3-3-3 rule (https://www.reddit.com/.../the_333_rule_every_dog_is...) - Howie's foster home saw incredible changes in just a couple of months, with consistency, training, and boundaries. If you have desire to rescue a dog who is truly in need of a rescuer (but has never shown an inclination to be dangerous), and one that will bring you much joy and happiness, please consider Howie.
Adoption fee is $450
