Story
Meet Goose! A spirited two-and-a-half-year-old Australian Cattle Dog mix currently living in Berkeley, CA, whose essence is a delightful blend of speckled charm, boundless energy, and sun-soaked silliness. With her tan and white coat speckled like a giraffe and a face full of expression, Goose is 55 pounds of brains, goof, and love! She’s incredibly affectionate, curious, and energetic—true to her working-dog roots—and thrives when she has space to roam, explore, and play. Her absolute happiest moments happen in open areas with other dogs, whether she’s at doggy daycare, on group hikes, or galloping across her favorite 17-acre off-leash dog park. She’s got a floppy, cuddly side too, especially in the evenings, when she transforms into a snugglebug ready to curl up beside you! Goose has been through formal training and knows a wide variety of commands including “sit,” “come,” “leave it,” “touch,” and “place.” She has great recall and is eager to please, especially if treats are involved. But she is also highly sensitive to certain city-life triggers like scooters, skateboards, and sudden movements. She has been reactive when startled by things like people with assistive devices or rolling luggage, and she once had a bite incident during a trail walk when a passing bicyclist spooked her. It was an isolated, unreported event—Goose immediately retreated to her dog walker afterward—but it highlights her need for a calmer, more predictable environment. This clever girl would flourish in a rural or countryside home with a large, securely fenced yard, another friendly dog or two, and a guardian who understands the needs of sensitive, reactive pups. Goose is good with older kids, but due to her tendency to get jumpy and mouthy when excited, a home without young children is best. Goose has a high prey drive and tends to chase cats, squirrels, and birds. That said, she's recently started coexisting peacefully with farm cats and chickens at her boarder’s rural property—proof that with the right environment and routine, she can settle into life alongside other animals. She is crate trained, house-trained, vaccinated, spayed, and microchipped. She’ll come with her crate, cozy bed, favorite stuffies, and enrichment toys—all the comforts of home, ready to go! Could your peaceful, dog-loving space be the perfect fit for Goose’s big heart and joyful spirit? Email adopt@joyfulpets.com to learn more about welcoming this sweet, speckled girl into your life!

Story
Meet Opal! A spirited five-and-a-half-year-old Australian Cattle Dog currently living in Milwaukie, OR (a suburb of Portland, Oregon) whose essence is a delightful mix of sass, smarts, and snuggliness wrapped in a striking merle coat. Opal is the kind of girl who throws herself wholeheartedly into everything she loves, whether it’s chasing a squeaky toy across the living room, gently play-biting your hand in the most hilarious display of affection, or performing her signature “fishtail spin” during a round of zoomies that’ll leave you laughing every time! Though she has hip dysplasia, which means long hikes and intense activity are off the table, she still adores walks and bursts of play, especially if there's a tennis ball involved. Watch out, she will chew it to bits with great satisfaction! Like many clever herding breeds, Opal has a strong personality and a clear communication style. She’s a girl who knows what she likes and what she doesn’t. She feels safest when her world is calm and predictable, and she connects most deeply with one trusted person. Her current caregivers, along with a professional canine behavior specialist, have helped her build confidence through structure, routine, and lots of gentle encouragement. Opal has also shown some defensive behaviors in the home, particularly with unfamiliar visitors. She has given a few quick nips when people move through her space or try to interact with her before she feels ready. While she has been calm and well-mannered in public settings, a busy household or one with frequent guests can be challenging for her. A quieter environment where introductions can be managed thoughtfully will set her up for success. Opal is looking for a low-traffic home without children or other pets, where she can relax and be her funny, loyal self. A quiet lifestyle suits her best. She is not a fan of sudden changes or lots of visitors, but give her a cozy space, a caring human, and a predictable routine, and she’ll reward you with her whole heart. This medium-sized gal (about 40 pounds of pure personality) is smart as a whip! She’s had obedience training, knows her commands (sit, stay, come, shake, down), and listens especially well when her environment is calm and consistent. Plus, she comes with a lifetime training plan from Bark Busters, which her caregivers will transfer to you for a fee of about $300 to Bark Busters. It’s a wonderful resource to help support her continued success. She’s crate trained, house-trained, microchipped, and vaccinated. She even enjoys relaxing to music when you’re away and will snooze peacefully until you're back. She’s been described as deeply loyal, silly in all the best ways, and totally tuned in to the person she trusts. Opal isn’t for everyone, and that’s okay. But for someone looking for a one-of-a-kind companion, she could be the dog of your dreams! Ready to welcome this bright, bold girl into your life and share in her next round of zoomies? Story
Meet Mocha! A loving three-and-a-half-year-old Doberman/Golden Retriever mix currently in Oceanside, CA, whose heart is as big as his 80-pound frame and just as full of warmth and devotion. Cloaked in a stunning black and tan coat, Mocha brings the best of both breeds. Loyalty, intelligence, and playful charm into one big bundle of affection who’s convinced he belongs in your lap! Mocha is a joyful spirit at home, where he enjoys romping in the backyard, fetching his favorite toys, and playfully palling around with his smaller dog sibling. He’s a master cuddler and a sweet companion who knows how to unwind after a good round of zoomies. Mocha is house-trained, microchipped, neutered, and knows several handy commands like “sit,” “lie down,” “go,” and even “go to sleep.” His routine is simple: two meals a day, playtime, and lots of love! While he shines with his family and does wonderfully with older kids and familiar guests, Mocha can be cautious around new adults. With slow, structured introductions and a confident caregiver who can guide him through new experiences, he thrives. One of his more memorable moments was when a surprise visit from a neighbor triggered his protective side, he ran after the visitor but never bit, showing more bark than bite. This moment highlights his need for a calm home with thoughtful management during greetings and transitions. Out on walks, Mocha is curious about other dogs but tends to pull on the leash, especially when excited. He’s not reactive or noisy, just strong and eager! A little leash training and daily exercise will go a long way in helping him be the best walking buddy. His ideal family will be experienced with larger dogs, comfortable providing structure, and perhaps have a fenced yard where Mocha can let loose in a safe space. If you're ready to welcome Mocha into your life, reach out to adopt@joyfulpets.com! What kind of adventures will you and Mocha discover together?
