Story
Larka is an incredibly smart, playful girl with a big personality and an even bigger zest for life! She is curious, eager and always ready for the next adventure, but her foster family has been working hard to show her that life does not always have to happen at full speed. And she is listening! Larka has made huge progress in learning how to settle, and she is discovering that slow mornings, couch cuddles and relaxing with her person can be pretty wonderful too. These days, she is quite happy to snuggle up beside you with your morning coffee, or spend the evening watching TV on the couch. She is still very much Larka, but she is learning that she has an off switch.Larka is fully kennel trained and fully house trained, and her leash manners have come a long way. She is walking with a Halti and has improved significantly with her reactivity through continued exposure and guidance, although there is still work to do. Her foster family is committed to helping her continue building those skills, and Larka is proving what a difference patience and consistency can make. She is very social with other dogs when she is able to interact off leash and does well with them with proper introductions. She has also made wonderful progress with children. With appropriate guidance, she is much less nippy with people and is learning to redirect herself onto toys instead. She can even coexist with her foster family’s son while he is being a little crazy, grabbing a toy and learning how to interact appropriately with him. She would still benefit from a family who understands that she is a work in progress and can continue supporting her around children.Cats are a different story. Larka is still very excited by them and enjoys the idea of a good chase far too much, so she will need a home with dog savvy cats and careful management. Her strong herding instincts are still very much part of who she is, and she will thrive with people who understand that drive and can give her appropriate outlets. She loves learning and has already mastered cues including out, down and stay, has a good recall, and is currently working on her stay and release cue. Her intelligence and enthusiasm make training fun, and she is happiest when she has something constructive to do.Larka has come a long way, and her biggest accomplishment may be learning that she does not always need to be busy. She can play hard, learn hard and then curl up beside her people for a quiet evening. She is looking for a family who will continue building on all the wonderful progress she has made while giving her the structure, enrichment and patience she needs to thrive. If you are looking for a smart, active and affectionate companion who will keep you laughing, learning and moving, Larka might be your girl.
