Story
Hi, I’m Toby—and my motto is: I can’t see you, but I love you. I’m a 7–8 year old, 33 lb. (mini) Border Collie mix (maybe Beagle??) with a big heart and a lot of resilience. I was found on MLK Blvd in Portland, blind, underweight and struggling. Not long after, I had to have my eyes removed due to painful glaucoma. But I’ve healed well, and I’m learning how to navigate the world in my own way. I’m incredibly smart. I’ve already mapped out my foster home, I come when called (at home), and I sit like a pro—especially if treats are involved. I’m eager to learn and very motivated by food and praise. I just need someone patient to help me build confidence and boundaries. I love people. I bond quickly, greet you with full-body wiggles, and want to be near my humans (but I’m not underfoot all the time). At home, I’m playful, affectionate, and happiest when I’m part of the action. Outside can still be scary for me. Since I can’t see, I react to sounds like barking dogs or nearby people—it can feel overwhelming. I’ll need an understanding adopter, ideally someone with blind dog experience, who can help me feel safe and supported. I may also do well with a calm, confident dog friend to help guide me. I enjoy tug toys, bones, Kongs, and cozy naps (especially on the couch). I sleep in my own bed at night and take daily meds to help with this new life. What I need most is someone patient, kind, and willing to see my potential. Because even though I can’t see you… I will love you with everything I have.

Story
Hi, I’m Jackson! Nice to meet you! I’m an 11-year-old Border Collie mix with energy to play and have a heart full of loyalty. I weigh about 48 pounds and have the agility and stamina to run, play, and explore. I used to live on a quiet rural property with the best human dad, where we had all the space in the world. I have lots of energy and need daily exercise, whether that’s structured walks, running in a safely fenced yard, or other activities that help me burn off both physical and mental energy. When I don’t get enough outlets, my anxiety can increase. With patience, reassurance, and a calm environment, (including anxiety medication!) I do best. On walks, I may get overexcited or reactive when I see other dogs, deer, or unexpected things. Because of this, I’m much happier in a quiet, country environment where I don’t need to be on leash as often. In safe, off-leash areas, I relax, decompress, and can share space nicely with other dogs. My recall is strong, and I reliably come back to my person. I’m very people-focused and love being close to my humans. I get excited to see kids, but because of my strength, energy, and anxiety, I would do best in a home without small children. My human loves me very much, but can no longer give me the space and exercise that help me feel calm and confident. My ideal home is a quiet, rural setting or peaceful countryside property with one or two adults who understand anxiety and want a deeply loyal companion. I’d thrive as the only pet, where I can soak up all the love, constantly be by my person's side and feel secure again. I’ve been at SDRO for a long time and would love to find my second lease on life. Do I sound like a good match for you? If so please apply.
