Story
Hazel was picked up as a stray. She had to be trapped because she was injured and avoiding people. But once she realized the ACO's were helping, not hurting her, she was all sweet and mellow. STAR (Sandite Team Animal Rescue) got her foot checked out at Catoosa Small Animal Hospital with Dr. Caleb Weir. The volunteer said she was so easy in the lobby and paid no attention to the other dogs. Once she went back for her exam the tech and vet said she let them do whatever they wanted to her. They said her foot looks great for being loose for so long and it may be possible to save her leg. The white we are seeing is her tendons and since she's bearing weight sometimes, she still has use of the leg and foot. They said she was the perfect patient and she will make someone a lovely family member. While Hazel was waiting for her foster to come get her, she got a bandage change, and then she took a nap to dream of frolicking in meadows. She even assisted feeding a kitten. this girl is so perfect. She was kenneled next to a small dog and didn't even care. She has been with her foster for almost two weeks now and her foot and leg are healing well! Thank you for all the bandage changes and love! She has been getting along with the foster siblings from a distance until fully healed.

Story
Meet Johan, the 1-year-old 37-pound Boxer/Aussie mystery mix, who is convinced he's a much larger dog trapped in a compact, muscular frame. Sure, we could guess his breed all day long, but why ruin the surprise? Johan doesn’t care about labels anyway—he’s too busy mastering the art of being your personal shadow and part-time squirrel security officer. Johan came to us after he narrowly escaped death row at the shelter, and he’s been living every day like it’s a brand-new adventure ever since. Let’s get one thing straight: Johan LOVES humans. In fact, he’d be thrilled if you had a 24/7 Johan Appreciation Club because, honestly, he thinks your undivided attention is his birthright. If you’re into snuggles, you might as well clear your calendar because this boy is ready to claim a permanent spot on your couch, your lap, and possibly your heart. He’s not picky about whether he’s the only dog in the house or has a canine sidekick, though if you’ve got another dog, expect him to throw a few "personal boundaries challenges" into the mix (don’t worry, we’re working on it). Now, about cats… let’s just say Johan sees them as small, furry, and potentially part of a high-speed chase he’s always ready to start. So if you’ve got a feline friend who enjoys life without a daily cardio session, we suggest swiping left. And squirrels? Oh, those little critters don’t stand a chance under Johan’s vigilant patrol. One bark and they’ll know not to mess with this guy’s yard. Johan’s leash skills are... well, let’s call them a work in progress. He loves the idea of walks so much that the mere sight of a leash turns him into a one-dog parade. If you enjoy impromptu upper-body workouts, Johan’s pulling technique will serve you well! But hey, he’s trying, and with the right motivation (read: treats), we’re confident he’ll be strutting down the block like a well-mannered gentleman in no time. Public outings? Let’s just say Johan needs a bit more time before he’s ready to be your café companion. He’s more of a “let’s stay home, but please, don’t forget the walks” kind of guy for now. And while he’s mostly potty trained, you might want to keep an eye out for his subtle “I need to go” dance—he’s still figuring out how to communicate his bathroom needs. We’re working on the whole “using a button” thing because, well, why not aim for a bilingual dog? Johan’s idea of a great day involves lots of toys, a bit of chasing (but don’t expect him to bring anything back), and plenty of belly rubs. He’ll ride shotgun in your car if you let him, staring out the window like a little prince surveying his kingdom. As for apartment life? Johan’s got a lot to say about every creak and stranger passing by, so unless your neighbors are big fans of impromptu barking concerts, he might be better suited to a house. In short, Johan is a playful, snuggle-obsessed, squirrel-chasing sweetheart who’s just waiting for the right human to help him channel his inner gentleman. Sure, he’s got a few quirks (don’t we all?), but with a bit of patience and a lot of love, he’ll be the best decision you’ve ever made. 📍 Pickup Location: Fort Sill, OK
