🌟 Meet Rufus: Your Loyal and Devoted Companion! 🐾 Hello there, I'm Rufus, an 8-year-old canine with a heart full of love and a yearning for a serene and tranquil home. Here's a little about me: 🐶 Solo Star: The Only Pet You'll Ever Need I'm looking for a home where I can be the center of your universe, without any other furry companions to share the spotlight. I'm ready to shower you with all the love and attention you'll ever need. 🏡 Tranquil Territory: Peaceful Oasis Preferred I thrive in a calm and quiet environment. A home with minimal visitors and a serene atmosphere would be the perfect backdrop for our journey together. 🛡️ Guardian Instincts: Resourceful Protector of Loved Ones I have a strong sense of guarding the people I hold dear. It's my way of showing my devotion and ensuring their safety. You'll have a faithful protector in me. 👶 No Room for Little Explorers: Adults Only Zone While I'm a sweetheart, I'm not the best match for young kids. My timid nature and specific needs are better suited to a home with adults who understand and appreciate my unique personality. 🐾 Timid Turnaround: Patience Leads to a Lifetime of Loyalty At first, I may be a little reserved, but once I warm up to you, I'm all in. I'd move mountains to make the people I love happy and cherished. If you're seeking a faithful companion who will cherish you and create a world of tranquility, I'm Rufus, and I'm ready to fill your life with love and loyalty. Let's embark on this journey together! 🐾❤️

Story
They call me Exuberant, Handsome and Sweet but you can choose a new name for me when we adopt each other. I don’t care what you call me, as long as you call me. I’m a happy dog who loves people more than anything else in the world. I’m a 4 year old Pitbull Lab (?) mix, with a 22” collar and am very big and strong. The Vet said I weigh 73 pounds. Don’t let that scare you because I am just a mushy ball of love. I like to let everyone know how happy I am to see them by twirling around and wagging my tail as fast as it will go. This is usually when they call me Exuberant. I like to have fun. Because I’m such a good boy, I’m allowed in the house and have good potty manners. I prefer being inside with people at night especially. You can hold the TV remote for us. Since I have a lot of energy and need exercise, your large fenced yard will be well-used. My foster peeps say I need a family, not a job. They know that I’m a quick learner and will be someone’s best dog ever with some training. Because I’m big and young at heart, my new humans should have some experience with dogs and be able to work with someone of my stature. I promise I will try to do everything you ask enthusiastically. Fortunately, my past dog life doesn’t include any physical abuse so I’m not afraid of people or other animals. I don’t like loud booming noises (fireworks or dynamite) or gunfire so I wouldn’t be a good hunting dog. Health wise, I am terrific; up to date on shots and tested negative for heartworms. Recently I was tricked into getting “tutored” and woke up with my bubbles missing. Foster peeps say it means I will get my forever home very soon! Maybe it’s yours! Story
Shellie came to the pound as a stray when she was 5 months of age; therefore, we do not know much about her. She appears to have Boxer traits by jumping around and wiggling her back end and terrier markings. Shellie is coming along in her training to be a great companion animal, although she still has lots of puppy energy as a 1 year old. Shellie has been with trainers to teach her basic commands, recall, in home skills, and walking on a leash. This beautiful girl has a big personality! At a year old, Shelly just loves life, especially playing and exploring. She has made good progress with basic manners while in her foster home, but she still needs help fine tuning her leash manners and evaluating her social skills. She is very athletic and has lots of drive, so channeling that drive in an appropriate manner is key to fulfilling her needs and keep her from getting destructive (lots of structured play time through tug, chasing toys, and safe toys/bones for chewing). She’s improving with her house manners, beautifully sits at doors until released and is crate trained. She still requires supervision inside the home when not in her crate as that active mind will get her into trouble until she is more mature! Shelly is dog friendly; however, she has the tendency to become aroused too quickly and during play with another dog it can turn south fast. This isn’t uncommon with terrier breeds, so taking her to the dog park or dog daycare is not recommended for her. With a high prey drive, placement in a home without other dogs or smaller dogs/pets is ideal unless the family has experience living with strong breeds. However, if you currently have a dog, we recommend a with your dog as part of the adoption process. Shellie has been dewormed, microchipped, is free of external parasites, and has received the Distemper-Parvo combination vaccine. Since he is not yet spayed, therefore she is not available for adoption outside of the counties contiguous to Bedford County. For more information, please call the Bedford Humane Society at 540-586-6100, or go to https://www.bhsva.org/adoptables to fill out an adoption application.

Story
🌟 Hello compassionate hearts! Allow me to introduce you to Lucero, a resilient 4-year-old female dog who has triumphed over adversity and is now ready to embark on a new chapter of love and healing. Inspirational Tale: Lucero, meaning "bright star" in Spanish, has lived up to her name by overcoming a challenging past. She came to us after a collision with a car left her with a broken pelvis. Despite her ordeal, Lucero's spirit shines brightly, and she's now on the path to recovery. Personality: Lucero is a testament to strength and perseverance. Despite her past, she radiates warmth and resilience. She has a gentle and sweet nature that speaks volumes about her forgiving spirit. She has shown a positive attitude towards some dogs, indicating a potential for loving canine companionship. Special Considerations: Lucero's healing journey is ongoing, and she needs a special home that understands her unique needs. Due to her recent injury, a home with little to no stairs would be ideal, allowing her to move comfortably and without hindrance. Lucero's interactions with cats and kids are uncertain, and a patient and understanding family willing to give her the time and space she needs to adjust would be perfect. Healing Hearts: Lucero is not just a survivor; she's an inspiration. Her journey is a reminder of the resilience of animals and the transformative power of love. As she continues her healing process, Lucero is looking for a family that will provide the support and care she deserves, helping her blossom into the bright star she was always meant to be. Adoption Promise: By opening your heart and home to Lucero, you're not just offering a forever home; you're becoming a part of her ongoing journey of healing and hope. She may have faced challenges, but her spirit is unbroken, and her capacity for love is boundless. If you're ready to be the guiding light in Lucero's life, offering her the love, patience, and understanding she deserves, please consider making her a cherished member of your family. Together, let's create a bright future for Lucero, where she can bask in the warmth of a loving home. 🌟🐾💖 #ResilientPup #BrightFutureAhead
