Story
No one can say no to those precious eyes! Ms. Hen is a sweet gentle soul who was sadly dumped out in the mined wildlife grounds. Thankfully our staff saw her and spent the next few days rescuing her to bring her to the safety of our shelter. Ms. Hen is very sweet with people and gets along great with our dogs at the shelter . Ms. Hen is looking for a home with no cats. She has already been spayed, heartworm tested, microchipped, and is up to date on vaccinations! Ms. Hen has been sponsored in loving memory of Marilyn Brown meaning that this sweet girl has NO ADOPTION FEE! *Interested adopters MUST bring their own dog(s) that your new canine will be living with at your household. This is for our staff and your family to monitor their behavior in a safe place to help ensure all animals are happy moving in together*

Story
Culver is a 7 - 9 month old male Boxer mix. He has a high energy level, so he would benefit from an active family with a fenced yard and plenty of space for daily exercise and play. He is loose and wiggly when greeting, and comes when called for snuggles. He also loves to hop up into your lap for hugs and kisses. Culver does moderately pull on a leash, but with basic obedience training, he should be walking like a champ in no time! He is food motivated and knows the command sit. He mixes well with other dogs in a kennel, but is afraid of cats in the shelter environment. Dogs are generally tested with dogs of their own size; and dog meets with the resident dogs are always encouraged. Our cat test should be used as a general-purpose screening only to rule out overt aggression; we always recommend caution when introducing dogs to cats in the home. Recommendation on suitability of placement with children by their ages is based on behavioral observations including energy level and response to body handling. We never recommend leaving young children unsupervised with dogs, and we cannot guarantee the behavior of dogs with children, other pets, or cats. Behavior evaluations should be considered as a snapshot of the behavior of the dog at this point in time; JHS believes all dog families need to be prepared to invest time and energy into training as well as provide common sense management of their new dog. We always encourage family to do some research on the breeds or mixes of breeds prior to adoption as many can have some unique characteristics that may or may not fit into their families. Always remember that the majority of dogs at our shelter have been exposed to or may have kennel cough. Kennel cough is contagious to other dogs, please talk to your vet if you have any questions about kennel cough prior to adoption. Please ask your adoption counselor at time of adoption if you have any unanswered questions regarding illnesses and treatments of the pet that you are adopting.
