Story
Meet Beowulf, a 1-year-old Anatolian Shepherd mix weighing 59 pounds who's equal parts loyal shadow, gentle sweetheart, and playful goofball. Beowulf recently got to enjoy a weekend away from the shelter, and he proved just how much he shines in a home environment. He's potty trained and will let you know when he needs to go outside with a polite whine. He's a wonderful passenger in the car, walks beautifully on a leash, and is unfazed by everyday commotion, even nearby fireworks. Wherever you are, that's exactly where Beowulf wants to be. He'll happily follow you from room to room, hoping for a few pets and some quality time with his favorite people. He loves to give hugs. This handsome boy is friendly with both people and other dogs. He's curious about the world and he does a great job matching the energy of his canine companions. Ready to play? He's all in. Time to relax? He's happy to settle down if he's not distracted by a canine pal. He's already starting to learn basic commands and is eager to please, making him a great candidate for continued training. Like many young dogs, Beowulf is still polishing a few manners. He has discovered that kitchen counters can hold interesting treasures and he's known to be a toy thief when another dog happens to be enjoying it. Beowulf will try to get to a dog on the other side of the fence to say hello, so if a fenced yard is in his future, it should be a nice tall privacy fence. He's also a picky eater who prefers to graze and may need a little encouragement at mealtime while he settles into a new home. The biggest thing Beowulf is looking for is companionship. He forms strong bonds with his people and can become anxious when left alone, so he'd do best with someone who works from home, has a flexible schedule, or can help him gradually build confidence. If you're looking for a devoted best friend who will happily accompany you through every part of your day, Beowulf is ready to fill that role. With a little patience, continued training, and lots of love, this sweet young boy is sure to become an incredible lifelong companion. His minimum adoption fee is $300 plus a $15 fee, if 4 months or older, for rabies registration for McLean County residents. He has been neutered, microchipped, vaccinated, heartworm checked, dewormed, and is on flea and heartworm preventatives.
