Low ·       Bio:   This very large boy has a heart to match and is looking for a loving and patient home in which to continue his healing journey.  Goosifer was discovered wandering in the Kalamazoo, MI area in March and needed to be live-trapped.  He was scared, emaciated, and had a broken front leg.  With shelters as overwhelmed as they are right now, his future was very uncertain – but Goosifer quickly won over the shelter staff and they fought hard for him.  Speak! for the Unspoken was able to step in and get him out of the shelter to finish healing in a home.  He spent six months getting weekly splint changes to allow his leg to heal and is finally physically ready to be adopted. Mentally, Goosifer still has aways to go and he will need a special and patient adopter.  Mastiffs are known for being guard dogs and protecting their people, and Goosifer is a prime example.  He will have his one person and he will guard that person to the best of his ability.  Goosfier warms most quickly to women and he is afraid of men.  He is okay with the children in his home but does not like when other children are in the house.  Because of this, he needs a home with women only or a home where the adopters are willing to work with him extensively to get him comfortable.  He will need a more calm house that does not have a lot of guests.  We would like his potential adopter to be able to visit him a few times in Portage, MI to get to know him before any adoption is finalized. This is Gus. Gus is 2 years old, and I've had him since he was 12 weeks old (found him in an ad). For the last year he has attacked my 12 year old pit bull four times with no warning. The most recent fight was in July and it left me with punctures from getting between them. They are on a crate rotation currently (per a dog trainer), but I feel like this isn't fair to either of them. My senior should be able to live the rest of his life in peace, and Gus deserves better than so much time in a crate. He is a good dog otherwise. He is potty trained (will ring a bell on the door to go out), sits and waits to eat until we say "bingo", loves to snuggle under the covers, and does well in the bath. This is my last option. It is devastating because I love him so much, but this just isn't working. He will do best in a home with no other dogs, he is iffy with cats, and no small children (he's big and doesn't realize it so they could be knocked over).

We don't know much about his past, but we are excited to help him findthe bright future he deserves. Melvin is a big, goofy boy with an even bigger heart. He absolutely loves other dogs, especially dogs his own size, and nothing makes him happier than a good game of chase or some rough-and-tumble wrestling with a canine friend. Because he's still young, he's full of energy and doesn't always realize just how big he is. One of Melvin's sweetest qualities is how quickly he bonds with his people. Fill out an Adoption Application HEADLINER : Gus Gus, the Giant, Loveable Goofball  HISTORY : Gus Gus, of no fault of his own, came to MTM from a loving family. Former family reported him being great with other dogs and cats as well as kids.... though he has been reported to find and eat socks  PERSONALITY : Mild-mannered, passive with our male dog, loves laying around and hanging out. Always  down for car rides and is quite a good hiking partner. He is a sucker for treats and belly rubs, though be  aware that we tend to call him Gus Gus "Niagara Falls" after he drinks, as much of the water that goes in tends to dribble back out... nothing a few old towels cannot handle. This dog is a HUGE love-bug!  FAVORITE ACTIVITIES : Greeting his people, walks, playing with sticks, playing with other dogs and kids, car rides with windows down, eating treats and lots of chilling.  MEDICAL ISSUES : Currently waiting for his neuter surgery (scheduled for early November), is on an antibiotic for yeasty ears, and is being treated for infected pressure sores on his legs from laying on hard floors (he has been getting used to dog beds and sometimes the couch during his time with his foster family). He has lost weight (was 225 and is currently 192 lbs.) and is working on gaining it back. Tested positive for Lyme Disease on 9/11/26. Currently up to date with vaccines and is on heart guard treatment  WHAT WOULD BE THE BEST KIND OF HOME: A loving home that can give Gus Gus plenty of car rides and leisure walks and nice hikes in nature. A home with people that love him and his big head, even if he drools. A home that has room for a big couch potato sidekick.
