Gato is a 2.5-year-old domestic shorthair boy who is as sweet and affectionate as they come. He loves people, attention, and being part of your day. Unfortunately, Gato was recently returned after struggling with consistent litterbox use in his previous home. His owner truly tried to make things work—Gato was seen by a veterinarian, had bloodwork done, and no medical cause was found. The vet’s best guess is that his accidents were related to stress or anxiety in the home environment. Because of this, Gato may thrive best in a calmer, lower-stress home where routine and predictability can help him feel secure. Another possibility is that Gato may do well as an indoor/outdoor cat (where it is safe to do so) or in a more spacious environment where he has more freedom to choose his bathroom areas. His former owner did not have the ability to safely transition him to that lifestyle, but it may be the right fit for him moving forward. Gato has so much love to give—he just needs someone willing to meet him where he is and give him the chance to feel safe and confident again. If you’re patient, understanding, and open to helping him find what works best for him, Gato could be a wonderful gardener or workshop supervisor.
