Meet Rocket! 🚀 🩵
He is a happy, affectionate, easygoing young dog with just the right amount of puppy energy. Rocket has not shown aggression and enjoys being around people.
Personality:
*Happy, playful, and incredibly affectionate.
*Loves giving kisses.
*Low to medium energy overall, with playful bursts throughout the day.
*Has a little puppy energy but settles down beautifully.
*Smart, eager to please, and loves interacting with his family.
*Knows his name well and has excellent recall—when you call "Rocket," he comes happily sprinting toward you like a little rocket!
Home Life
*Bedtime: Around 10:00 p.m. each night, he naturally starts looking for his favorite sleeping spot and settles in peacefully for the night.
*Crate trained.
*Rocket has good potty manners.
*Rocket can be a "door dasher." He is curious and quick, use caution when opening exterior doors or unloading him from the car. Keeping him securely leashed until safely inside a fenced area is highly recommended.
Dogs, Children & Other Pets
*Wonderful with children. He previously lived with children ages 4 and 9.
*Excellent with other dogs. He is gentle and currently cohabitates beautifully with nine small dogs in foster care.
*Unknown with cats, but given his gentle nature with other dogs, he may do well with respectful cats.
Favorite Things
*Running around the yard and doing joyful zoomies.
*Exploring outside and playing with toys.
*Spending time with his people.
*Giving kisses.
*Riding in the car.
*Walking nicely on a leash.
*Taking treats gently.
*No food or toy aggression.
Grooming
*Rocket handled his bath very well but was not a fan of the hair dryer.
*His soft coat will require regular brushing and professional grooming.
*Short haircut recommended because he seems to get warm easily.
Rocket has been an absolute joy to foster. He is the kind of dog who can happily join you for a walk or a game of fetch, then settle quietly by your side for the rest of the evening. He is extremely affectionate, gentle, and easy to live with, and thrives on routine and consistency. If you're looking for a loving companion who will greet you with joyful tail wags, shower you with kisses, and then happily relax beside you after a day of exploring, Rocket may be the perfect addition to your family.

Old Dominion Humane Society (ODHS) Adoption Process
- Complete our Adoption Survey on the Adopt page of our website at https://www.olddominionhumanesociety.org/adoption-survey to expedite the process and arrange a meet-and-greet. Expect a response within about a week; please check your spam folder. As we're 100% volunteer-run, your patience is appreciated!
Requirements And Donations
- Required Adoption Day Items: A martingale collar and a non-retractable leash (available for purchase at ODHS).
- Adoption Donations: Puppies (under 1 year): $375; Adults: $275; Seniors (age-dependent): $175; Select dogs: $500. We accept cash, debit, and credit cards.
- Adoption Radius: Within 350 miles of Fredericksburg, VA. A $50 out-of-state fee applies.
- Breed Identification: Dogs are listed as "Mixed Breed" unless formal documentation is available.
Location And Hours
- Visit our adoption center at 3602 Lafayette Blvd, Fredericksburg, VA 22408 during adoption hours: Wednesday 5-7 PM; Friday 6-8 PM; and Saturday 10AM-4PM.
