Story
Cutie Pie is a male black with white Chihuahua or chihuahua mix puppy. He was born on Valentine’s Day, hence the candy heart name! He weighs about 7.5 pounds (as of 5/9/25), largest of the litter. Cutie Pie is ready for adoption having had two sets of puppy vaccines and deworming.
Cutie Pie is a puppy of Squirrel, Valentine #1, a sweet face tan Chihuahua about 10 lbs, surrendered to a local shelter on Valentine's Day while giving birth to her puppies…along with 15 other adults, and one other litter, all from the same home. Squirrel is a chihuahua personality, loving but a bit protective, very alert. All the dogs in the home were between 5-18 lbs, chihuahuas, dachshund mixes, and a small scruffy terrier. Among these would be the dad of the puppy.
Cutie Pie is a big brother, exactly as you would expect. He plays with his 4 sisters like they are boys, but he is also protective of them. Cutie Pie pays attention to everything going on around him. He learns quickly and likes to be first.
Cutie Pie has an umbilical hernia that will need to be repaired at the time of his neuter. The additional cost of this is generally affordable. The adopter will be responsible for completing the appropriate vaccinations and continuing the puppy on heartworm preventive. The adopter must spay the puppy by 6 months of age at their own expense and provide documentation to the rescue.

We require all potential adopters to submit an application. We only accept applications for a specific dog you are interested in adopting. We do not keep waiting lists or files of general applications for dogs we might get later. The online application can be found at this location:

A completed adoption application and, upon approval, an adoption contract is required. Jeff Tarpley Rescue welcomes applications from homeowners, renters, and condo or apartment dwellers. At a minimum, a phone interview will be conducted and a vet reference checked before the applicant may meet their preferred pet.
We adopt primarily in the 4 states of the ArkLaTexOma. Applicants willing to travel to Texarkana will also be considered with additional requirements to qualify as approved.
