Story
Meet Hector! This sweet boy has already been through so much. He was literally abandoned in a crate outside a rental home when his former “people” were evicted. Thanks to a caring landlord, neighbors, and his amazing foster mom, Hector is finally safe.Hector is a total lap dog who follows you around the house and just wants to be loved. He’s food- and attention-motivated, enjoys short walks, and spends most of his day snoozing. He’s friendly with dogs, cats, and people, and he’s especially respectful of cats’ space. He does have some resource guarding (food, attention, and personal space), so having his own safe spot — like a crate — helps him feel secure. He’s not high-energy, not aggressive, and has zero training, but his heart is pure gold.Hector’s dream home? Someone who loves TV, cuddles, treats, and being together. He’d do great with other pets or as an only child. He just wants a person of his own. 💛🐾Ready to give Hector the soft, safe life he deserves? To have your home considered for adoption, read about our adoption process or fees, and find out about interstate transport (dogs only), please visit our website.https://longwayhome.org/apply ❤ Long Way Home makes no guarantees on breed--most animals we receive from shelters are mixed breeds. Story
This charming little senior strutted out of a South Texas shelter like he owned the place, and he’s been stealing hearts ever since. Horace is a professional snuggler, a certified sunbather, and a total sucker for ear scratches (his smile when you find the perfect spot is priceless!).He’s a chill dude who minds his own business… unless a big dog walks by—then he’s got a harmless bark or two to share. Slow and steady is his vibe, and honestly, he’d make an excellent purse dog or lap companion. He’s currently on a weight-loss journey—think of him as your new gym buddy, minus the treadmill. With limited eyesight from cataracts and some hearing loss (but definitely not blind or deaf!), Horace still navigates life with confidence and charm. He’s potty trained, crate trained, and totally cool with cats and dogs.Horace isn’t built for mountain hikes, but if your idea of adventure is a movie marathon, snacks, and endless cuddles, he’s your guy. 💕***Horace has a collapsing trachea (common in small dogs!) as well as pulmonary hypertension and low thyroid, both of which will require lifelong medications to manage. Dogs with these conditions can live very fulfilling lives with proper management and weight control***To have your home considered for adoption, read about our adoption process or fees, and find out about interstate transport (dogs only), please visit our website.https://longwayhome.org/apply ❤ Long Way Home makes no guarantees on breed--most animals we receive from shelters are mixed breeds. Story
“Hi, I’m Ellen Griswold, and I’m a 13-year-old, 16-lb lover girl with the softest heart!💗 I am spayed and heartworm negative, but I do have some bad teeth that the vet is going to take care of for me soon.”My hearing isn’t what it used to be and my eyesight is slowly fading, but that doesn’t stop me from knowing exactly when you’re nearby. I may not always see or hear you right away, but I feel you—and being close to my people is my favorite gift of all!🎁 If you’re sitting down, chances are I’ll be right there with you, curled up like a cozy Christmas blanket and soaking in every bit of love you’re willing to give 🐶✨I adore companionship and thrive on affection. Cuddles, gentle pets, and quiet moments together by the tree are what make me happiest. I’m wonderfully sweet, calm, and easygoing, and I have so much love left to give!💕I do great with other dogs and am very good with kids too! The more love around me, the merrier.🐾I’m currently working on potty training and doing very well. I’m also comfortable resting in a kennel or playpen when you need to step out for a bit, handling those moments calmly and quietly.😌 I have a gentle, peaceful presence and would fit perfectly into a warm, loving home this holiday season ❄️🏡If you’re looking for a loyal, affectionate companion to share cozy nights, holiday movies, and endless cuddles with, I just might be your girl!🤍📍Based in Bryan, Texas. Story
Mama Perdita was rescued from a hoarding situation where about 40 dogs were living in filth and neglect. She was very reserved when I got her - it took 2 months to get a tail wag out of her. BUT, she has come so far and is now wiggly and wants to say hi to me. She still doesn't want to cuddle but she is coming out of her shell more and more every day. She has is learning to trust and has a big heart. She gave birth to her puppies on Sept. 30th and has been a wonderful Mama. At least she didn't have a 101 of them! She actually had 5 but little Scooby passed away so she now has 3 girls and 1 boy. They have all been adopted so it is her turn now.She gets along great with other dogs, besides her puppies, too and loves to play. She would strive with another friendly, active doggie playmate to show her the ropes and be a friend. She hasn't been tested yet with cats or kids. At first she struggled with potty training due to her previous living situation, but she has improved so much. Now, if you let her out regularly, she will wait and go outside. That doesn't mean she won't need patience and some re-training in a new situation. She is not good on a leash - I don't think she has ever seen one so again, she needs someone with patience. She will be a pro one day! For that reason, a fenced yard would be ideal for her so she can go potty since she would likely be too scared to do so on a leash right now. This little chihuahua mix deserves a lifetime of love to makeup for the first part of her journey. She is only around 5 years old so there is lots of time to spoil her. She is 11 #s so a pretty small girl. She has recently discovered toys and she loves them! If I give her one, she grabs it and adds it to her little pile in her bed. She also LOVES treats - that is definitely the way to win her heart! We would like Perdita to get a home within about 6 hours of Waco, Texas. She would not do well on a plane or overnight drives. Her foster Mom is willing to meet or deliver her within that radius. To have your home considered for adoption, read about our adoption process or fees, and find out about interstate transport (dogs only), please visit our website.https://longwayhome.org/apply ❤ Long Way Home makes no guarantees on breed--most animals we receive from shelters are mixed breeds. Story
Poor 💛LEXI💛. She got her full workup at the vet this week and has a huge heart that causes her to cough a lot, and she was very anemic. After her B12 shot, heart meds, good food, and TLC, she's feeling better! Of course, it's relative to her condition, but we love knowing that she's at least getting relief. Doc says that this little girl has had a VERY tough life. Lexi is looking for a home that will let her be the pampered old lady she deserves to be, however long that lasts. We should ALL deserve that in our final years, right?? Let's get this girl a soft place to land ....Nationwide transport available, thanks to our Flight Transport partners with SWATT Transport and that flies in cabin with Southwest AirlinesDog adoptions are $250, and if you need nationwide transport, it's an extra $250 for the flight and all materials needed.
