Story
At 12 years old, sweet Sally found herself alone in a high-kill shelter after her beloved mom passed away, and no one in the family stepped forward to take her in. Heartbroken and confused, she deserved so much better. Now, she's patiently waiting for someone to show her that some humans do cherish their best friend. When Sally came to us, she was shut down and battling an upper respiratory infection. Her spirit was dim, but not lost. With time, love, and a little patience, she’s slowly learning to trust again. We're still waiting for the day when her nervous tail sways turn into full-on wags, but we know it’s coming.Sally likely has some arthritis, which makes her a bit stiff, but she’s now on joint supplements and pain meds to help her feel more comfortable. Her eyesight isn't the best, but that doesn't stop her from seeking affection-or letting out a little whine when she can’t find her people. It takes a few weeks for her to come out of her shell, but once she realizes she’s safe, she adores her humans. Sally isn’t a fan of being picked up, but she loves to be gently petted and will gladly sit right beside you, content just to be near.Sally Shells is still revealing her personality, and we know she has so much love left to give. She’s ready for her forever home—a quiet, loving place where she can finally feel safe and treasured.Could you be the one to give Sally the soft, peaceful retirement she deserves? To have your home considered for adoption, read about our adoption process or fees, and find out about interstate transport (dogs only), please visit our website.https://longwayhome.org/apply ❤ Long Way Home makes no guarantees on breed--most animals we receive from shelters are mixed breeds. Meet Alder! 🌳🍃This sweet boy is as strong as the alder tree. Despite an unknown past, he’s survived with his loving personality fully intact. Alder is a 10-year-old, 9 lb Chihuahua who’s packed with personality and love. This little guy is calm and content when snuggled in your arms or curled up for a nap. But don’t be fooled—Alder also loves a good adventure! Whether he’s exploring the backyard or burrowing under the couch, his curious spirit keeps things fun. Most of all, he adores pets and attention from his people. 🐾💬 His foster calls him the perfect house guest—he’s well-mannered and seems to be potty trained!Alder does have a heart murmur and occasional seizures, both of which are managed with medication. Thanks to that care, he’s living a happy and active life! This sweet senior still has so much love to give and is looking for a forever home to call his own. 💛Can you be the one to give Alder his happily ever after? To have your home considered for adoption, read about our adoption process or fees, and find out about interstate transport (dogs only), please visit our website.https://longwayhome.org/apply ❤ Long Way Home makes no guarantees on breed--most animals we receive from shelters are mixed breeds. Meet Missy! This adorable 8-year-old Chihuahua/Dachshund mix arrived this week with her sister, Poppy. These sweet girls are soaking up all the love and attention they can get! Missy would be thrilled to have someone pet her all day, every day! Just look at those big ears and that precious face! How could anyone resist?Missy can be a little protective of her space, but she coexists well overall. If one of the playful dogs in her foster home gets a little too close while she's relaxing in her bed, she might let out a half-hearted bark and trot away. However, when she turns on play mood, she loves to play with her foster siblings! She just needs a little time to adjust. If Missy sounds like your perfect match, apply to adopt her today! To have your home considered for adoption, read about our adoption process or fees, and find out about interstate transport (dogs only), please visit our website.https://longwayhome.org/apply ❤ Long Way Home makes no guarantees on breed--most animals we receive from shelters are mixed breeds. Sandy has been waiting for someone to love her - just look at those eyes! She is pleading for a home of her own! She loves to snuggle - she follows her foster human around and just wants to be close :) Sandy is good with other dogs too. She loves to nap in soft blankets, soak up the sun, and enjoy life! She walks good on a leash but is more of a couch potato with occasional spurts of energy. She only barks if it is warranted and loves to investigate every corner of her home before finding the perfect spot! She seems housetrained. Her foster mom says she has fun quirks too - she goes crazy over apples (but hates pumpkin!) so she wants a family that remembers her preferences! Sandy is just the perfect little package waiting to be delivered into the arms of a loving family. To have your home considered for adoption, read about our adoption process or fees, and find out about interstate transport (dogs only), please visit our website.https://longwayhome.org/apply ❤ Long Way Home makes no guarantees on breed--most animals we receive from shelters are mixed breeds. Meet ❤️LUCKY LITTLE MAN❤️. This 4.4 pound senior fella came to us with two others (Nacho and Lucas) from the shelter. They were stuffed in a crate and abandoned at a bus stop!! 😭 All three are potty trained, good on leash, good with dogs and kids, and absolutely PRECIOUS. They are loving, affectionate, and adore being snuggled. Lucky gets his neuter this week (we assume no dental unless there is one rogue tooth hidden in there) and then he can leave for a forever home. Lucky loves being held and carried, so if you're looking for a little guy that can go everywhere with you, give Lucky a chance! Apply to adopt today... Nationwide transport available! ✈️🚖
