Story
Looking for a tiny shadow who will follow you to the ends of the earth (or at least to the kitchen)? Meet Pine Needle, the pocket-sized BFF you didn’t know you were missing! Pine Needle is a social butterfly who has never met a stranger. She’s got a personality that’s twice as big as her tiny frame and a heart that’s basically 100% pure mush. Whether she’s zooming around the yard or campaigning for a spot on your lap, this girl is all about living her best life with her favorite humans. Before you read on, you HAVE to see her in action check out her adoption video to see those tail wags for yourself! *YouTube Video* Pine Needle is what we call a professional Velcro dog. If there is a lap available, she will find it; if there is a shadow to be followed, she’s on the job. She isn't just a dog who lives in your house; she’s a companion who wants to be part of your daily rhythm. While she’s happy to just "hang out," her favorite hobby is definitely being as close to you as physically possible. We suspect this little lady is a Chihuahua mix, weighing in at a dainty 10 pounds. She is perfectly small and compact, making her the ultimate take everywhere accessory for your weekend errands or brunch dates. Of course, with any rescue, her breed mix is our best educated guess but her status as a certified good girl is 100% confirmed! She is currently thriving in a foster home where she has proven to be a total rockstar. Pine Needle lives with kids and absolutely adores them! She’s also a dream roommate who is already kennel trained and potty trained, which is basically the rescue lottery. She’s ready to slide right into a forever home without missing a beat. When it comes to other dogs, Pine Needle is a friend to all. It took her about a day to settle in with her foster siblings, and now they are a tight knit pack. She would do well with almost any energy level, provided her playmates are respectful of her smaller stature. She’s happy to have a canine buddy to romp with or just a nap partner. Pine Needle thinks cats are just dogs that stand on the counter! She is not afraid of her feline foster siblings and tries to initiate playtime with them daily. While she’s very cat friendly, we always recommend a kitty sleepover to make sure she’s ready. Because of her easy going nature and compact size, Pine Needle would be just as happy in a cozy apartment as she would be in a house with a yard. Her only real requirement is a human who doesn't mind a constant sidekick. One of her cutest quirks? She isn't shy! She’ll walk right up to new people to demand the pets she knows she deserves. In short, Pine Needle is the perfect blend of playfulness and cuddle bug energy. She’s kid tested, cat approved, and ready to be the center of your world. Story
Looking for a tiny shadow who believes every stranger is just a best friend she hasn’t met yet? Dreaming of a purse-perfect companion whose only career goal is a full-time position with 100% lap benefits? Let me introduce you to your girl, Pine Cone. Pine Cone is a pint sized sweetheart who takes her lap dog responsibilities so sincerely seriously, you’ll start to wonder how you ever watched TV without a tiny, warm bestie tucked perfectly into your lap. She doesn’t just cuddle, she commits! You truly have to see this girl in motion to believe the cuteness. *YouTube Link* With her dainty looks and charming personality, we’re pretty convinced she’s a Chihuahua mix. Of course, as with most rescues, we can’t guarantee breed or age, but we can guarantee the stats on her adorableness. Ready for this? Pine Cone weighs a mighty… 9 whole pounds. Small body, enormous heart. Currently waiting for her forever home, Pine Cone has proven herself to be an absolute rockstar in every social setting. She’s wonderfully respectful and kid-approved, handling time with little humans with a gentle, sweet spirit that makes everyone feel at ease. She’s also a crate champ! While she might offer the tiniest whine just to let you know she’d prefer extra cuddles, she settles into her routine like a pro and is always ready to load up for her next car ride adventure. When it comes to other dogs, Pine Cone is a dream companion. She’s a friendly greeter and enthusiastic player who can hold her own with big dogs or adjust her play style for smaller friends. She’d do best with a medium energy canine buddy, someone who enjoys playtime but also appreciates winding down for a good snuggle session. Got a feline ruler at home? Pine Cone says no problem. She’s met a resident cat and respectfully gave him space, showing all the signs of being a polite roommate for a dog-savvy kitty. As always, we recommend a “sleepover” trial to make sure everyone agrees on the living arrangements. Pine Cone is the ultimate anywhere dog. Thanks to her compact size and polite manners, she’d thrive just as easily in a chic city apartment as she would in a home with a big fenced yard. Her only real requirement? A lap to land in at the end of the day and a family who appreciates her big personality packed into that tiny frame. She’s small enough to travel with you… and spunky enough to keep life exciting wherever you go. If your home and your lap are ready for Pine Cone, she’s ready to meet you! Questions? Story
Sammy Sweets Supreme is a tiny gentleman with a soft little heart and a deep appreciation for snacks. Looks wise, between the ears and the long legs, you would be hard pressed to get someone not to use the word cute to describe him. Don’t want to read about him? Well lucky you, you can see his treat-loving cuteness in action? Head to YouTube then come right back to fall even more in love. https://youtu.be/64yz6brwVqs Sammy is an estimated 9-year-old, 11-lb likely Chihuahua/Terrier mix (rescue rules apply, so we can’t guarantee breed or birthday). What we can guarantee- he brings a peaceful and loving energy and has us absolutely positive that 9 years in small dogs converts to about 3 years old in the dog world in general. Science! In his foster home, Sammy lives with a whole variety pack of dog friends, all ages and sizes, and he’s doing wonderfully. He is perfectly content with other dogs and polite meeting new dogs but is into chiling more than playing with his doggie friends. He doesnt even mind sharing treats or his bed. He also did great with our house cat, giving a quick sniff and then carrying on with his day. No drama, no fuss, just peaceful coexistence. He’s also fully house trained and crate trained, which is basically the small-dog equivalent of showing up with all the experience needed to get the job and do it well! He may start out a bit shy, the polite type who prefers a gentle introduction, but give him a minute and a treat or two and you’ll watch him bloom into the coziest couch companion you could ask for. He isn’t here for chaos, only comfort. Sammy is wonderfully treat motivated. Truly. If there were a Treat Olympics, he would at least make the finals. Snacks are the bridge to his heart and the shortcut to earning his trust. Once you are officially “his person,” he settles into full affection mode, transforming into a devoted little couch potato who is happiest tucked beside you like a warm, breathing throw pillow. On leash, Sammy says “meh.” To put it simply, he isn’t interested in racking up the steps, not even because he cant, simply, why not be carried? He would love someone who doesn’t need a long-haul walking buddy and doesnt mind scooping him up and carrying him when needed. Think of him as a pocket prince who appreciates being chauffeured. A calm, chill home is exactly his speed. Sammy would truly thrive in a quiet home with someone who understands that older Chihuahuas are a treasure. He needs a little time to warm up, a steady routine, and someone who delights in spoiling a tiny senior who will repay that love tenfold. If you have a soft blanket, a gentle voice, and a few treats in your pocket, Sammy is ready to make your couch his kingdom and your heart his forever home. Apply today and let this sweet old soul settle in right beside you. Apply here: https://adopt.animalsfirst.com/animal/62cc8e128b02916730334440/698d03364a782f82d6058b4a Questions? Story
Toto is a tiny senior with absolute Silver Fox, main character energy. This boy is a perfect gentleman with a confident, vibrant presence, the cutest wirey coat and ears that have never missed a beat. Want to watch Toto charm in action? Head to YouTube for “Toto | Tiny Senior, Big Confidence” and then come back to read more. Toto is an estimated 9-year-old, 11-lb likely Chihuahua/Terrier mix (rescue rules apply, so we can’t guarantee breed or birthday). What we can guarantee: he’s bringing a joyful, self-assured vibe that’s easy to love and has us absolutely positive that 9 years in small dogs converts to about 3 years old. Science! In his foster home, Toto lives with a whole variety pack of dog friends, all ages and sizes, and he’s doing wonderfully. He’s also fully house trained and crate trained, which is basically the small-dog equivalent of showing up with a fresh new tie, a résumé and references. He is kid-approved, too! Toto met Kobe (age 5) and clicked immediately, totally unbothered by his Spiderman moves and his extreme off-the-couch jumps. If your household includes little humans with big imaginations, Toto’s like, “Cool. Dibs on the front row seat!” When Toto met two big dogs, he handled it like a pro. If they got in his space, he gave a very appropriate “hey, that’s close enough” warning and then carried on calmly. No big feelings, no drama. Just good boundaries from a tiny gentleman to a big bully. With our house cat, Toto was again a perfect gentleman. Granted the cat was bigger than him but he approached respectfully and then wandered off. Whether he was uninterested of playing it cool while fearing for his life, we wouldn't know the difference. Everything about him tells us he would likely do just fine joining a home with a cat though he isn’t looking to be a cats new bestie. Bonus, this is a mild chihuahua- no spice with people at all! He is great meeting with people and leads with a friendly welcoming energy and he doesnt mind being picked up which is an A+ for any small dog lover! All of that and the fact that he is low-key and easy on leash means he si a great candidate for house with a yard or apartment life. If you’re looking for a small companion who’s confident, house-trained, friendly, and still has plenty of pep in his step, Toto is ready to move in and help make life so much more charming! Emma is a 12-lb chihuahua, 13 years young, and living proof that age is just a number (especially when naps are involved). This sweet little nugget still has plenty of love, life, and cozy moments left to share—and she’s ready for a softer, happier next chapter. 💕 Who Emma is: 🚗 A car-ride enthusiast (she comes with her own car seat—VIP treatment only!) 🛋️ A professional napper who also enjoys the occasional burst of energy 🐱🐶 Great with cats, kids, and other dogs—especially if they’re open to cuddle buddies 🤍 A loyal little shadow who loves being close to her person A few important details (the honest kind): • Emma has a slight heart murmur, managed with an omega-3 supplement every other day • She has some hearing loss, but she’s been learning sign language and doing wonderfully • She is up to date on all vaccinations, including lepto • She will not be spayed, with her safety and comfort as the priority Best home vibes: Emma would thrive with someone retired, working from home, or anyone looking for a calm, loving co-pilot who enjoys car rides, window watching, and long afternoon naps. 🌤️ Small in size but big in heart, Emma is affectionate, adaptable, and incredibly easy to love. Story
Meet Danna Sue 💛 Danna is a 3-year-old tiny 9 pound Chihuahua mix with the sweetest little soft floppy ears that melt hearts the moment you see her. She’s a very shy and submissive girl who is just beginning to learn that affection can be safe and comforting. She lives with the best southern manners! She is family oriented, well mannered and shows off her grace. Like any southern belle she is a little timid at first but once you give her some time she'll quietly follow you around and be your sidekick. Watch her here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1-7OftzQ3js Danna would thrive in a home with a calm family or a single person who understands that trust takes time. Once she feels secure, she’ll happily be your cozy companion—curled up nearby, enjoying peaceful moments together. She can live comfortably with other pups. She loves to play with her foster pup friends and snuggle with you on the bed. Danna loves her foster kitten but the big kitties scare here. She is a dream to walk on leash and here BIG bark might surprise you. More than anything, Danna is ready to find her special person—someone patient and kind who will help her feel safe and loved for the first time. Danna currently cuddles with her foster kitten, lets the 5 year old twins hold her like a doll and loves her foster mom. Our on-site trainers support the positive growth of our dogs and we enjoy seeing their progress!    Our commitment to comprehensive medical care sets us apart. We've received glowing feedback from veterinarians who commend our dedication to ensuring the health and well-being of every animal in our care with treatments that often go above and beyond.   Our adoption fees reflect the extensive care and resources that go into each animal we save. The adoption fee is a donation to the mission and goes far beyond getting a fully vetted pet.    The rescue’s hard costs alone (excluding transport) for a healthy dog to go through our program typically range between $412 to $859, which includes boarding, food, medications, vaccines, and spay/neuter. For heartworm-positive dogs, hard costs are upwards of $1,368. Additionally, dogs requiring extended boarding, extra training, or extra medical care—such as dental work, vision care, or orthopedic care—can lead to expenses running into the thousands. Also, included in the adoption fee are costs to cover transport up to the Pacific Northwest or East Coast. Transport is a significant additional expense to the rescue.  While adoption fees help cover part of these expenses, we want to emphasize that the rescue does not receive government funding and must fundraise to offset the remaining expense balance which ranges $100-1,000++ per animal on these direct costs.   It doesn’t stop there! Our adopters also receive these SPECIAL PERKS:   Extensive behavioral testing and information from trainers on our staff to ensure the perfect fit for your family  Discounts on Embark DNA test kit- $30 off of Breed ID test & $50 off of Breed ID plus Health test 30 day trial of pet insurance with Trupanion A free private online dog training session with GoodPup, plus low pricing for future sessions  70% off of your first order of Fetch, a delicious PNW based fresh dog meatballs subscription Coupons for a fun visit to Petco 20% off of Dr. Cuddles pet first aid and hygiene solutions Discounted heartworm, flea prevention, and monthly dewormer  Access to our exclusive FB Adopters page, where you can network for play dates, resources, and connect with other adopters that share their passion for their adopted pup!   Did you know that the Greater Houston area faces some of the highest stray and overpopulation rates in the nation? We are a non profit charity. Our goal is simple— to reduce the homeless pet population through community outreach, free spay and neuter services, and by rescuing animals from the streets or overcrowded shelters where euthanasia due to lack of space is often the only option.
