Story
My name is Joanie
My Brother and I were found in the high desert wandering in search of food and nearly starving to death, and I was pregnant-By my brother :( The lady that trapped us and took us to her home and fed us and worked with us to help us build trust, but then she got sick. So we came to this amazing rescue just before Xmas, rescue mom said I looked like a skelton with a softball in my belly...we were only babies ourselves, but I became a MOM and I had my babies here, with my rescue moms help and brother/father by my side supervising and cheering me on without running for his life, checking each baby out to make sure they were ok!, that was a long time ago. I lost one baby and my other 2 daughter look just like us and are also bonded, Sierra is a special needs, mom says she is 'Pawtistic', She is a little overweight but she's a hoot! my third daughter Savannah is wonderful and watches out for her Sister Sierra.
My Brother and I still have alot of trust issues, we trust our rescue mom, its taken her alot of work and time, we have been to adoption events and people just love us, but we are skittish are new people, we do love everyone, but rescue mom says its likely we are multi-generational inbred dogs, which accounts for our special needs status. We are Runners, But she feels with the right Mom/Dad, with consistency, patience and kindness, and dog treats of course we would learn to love and trust a new family too. Babies, School Age children and other dogs would be additional challenge. we love our dogs buddies here, we've all been together for a long time now. We enter the crate on demand when the rescue is unattended. We are smart and obey mom. We are not aggressive at all, and love to be loved - if you can catch us.
We are scared that someone will hurt us or take us to a bad place again. Rescue mom call us timid now, but she used to call us feral...!! So that is improvement. They are nice here and we take treats from their hands and feel blessed to have been saved from us and our precious babies dying in the desert... we love to play with our rescue pack mates, we like to and hunt and chase lizards. We love our good food and our morning treats (very motivating) we do like car rides (with precautionary measures for escape). We are pee pad trained, doggie door trained and live a kennel free life here, coexisting with others and all of us are 'free fed' we graze and eat when we want to.
I think that someone blessed with a gift of love and patience, that is somewhat a home body would be the perfect home for me, or me and my brother, to learn to be completely fear free and understand that I will ever go anywhere but to the couch to cuddle. I hope there is someome out there for me/us.... rescue mom needs to find us a home, she is not well. Please remember to save a life, Adopt/Rescue, so many of us are dying in shelters, we and our rescue moms cant do it alone....
Thank you for taking time to read my story, With Love Joanie
