Story
Opal is a 1.5-2-year-old female who’s guessed to be a Chihuahua/Dachshund (aka “chiweenie”) mix. She’s 11-12 pounds of pure love with her sleek black and white coat. Opal was rescued from a park known for dumping dogs in Amarillo, TX along with 3 other dogs. They had been there for over a month before we heard about them being there. As soon as we heard they needed help, we sprang into action and rescued all 4 of them. Opal was the ringleader and as soon as she walked into the trap to get the food, the other 3 followed her. All of her other friends have been adopted and now it's time for Opal to find her amazing family that will continue to love her the way she deserves. Opal can be a little nervous and sometimes hand shy at first, but once she is settled she is just the bounciest, happiest little girl who loves to sit in your lap and snuggle. In the yard she will happily frolic and play with other small or extra small dogs. She gets the zoomies a few times a day and will fly around the yard or inside for a minute or two. Her ideal forever home would spoil her rotten with treats/toys, give her lots of attention (she loves pets and belly rubs!), and have at least a small fenced yard for her to run, play, and zoomie in. She is fully grown and won’t get any bigger (unless they are fed a few too many treats in the years to come). Opal is potty and leash trained. She does well with other dogs and even cats (she may bark at them at first, but settles). With a moderate energy level, she enjoys both playtime and snuggles/naps. Because of her small size and touch of nervousness, she would do best in homes with children aged 14 years and up. APPLY TODAY! Story
Meet Rook 🐾 Rook is a 3-month-old neutered Chihuahua mix with a gentle heart that's still learning the world isn't so scary. Rook found himself on the shelter's urgent list simply because he was overwhelmed and afraid. The shelter environment can be a difficult place for a shy puppy, and while he's safe now, he's still taking things one step at a time. Right now, Rook is learning that people can be kind and that new experiences don't have to be frightening. He's not the puppy who will immediately run up to greet everyone he meets—but that's okay. We believe that with patience, consistency, and a loving home, Rook is going to blossom into a wonderful companion. He's looking for a family willing to let him move at his own pace and celebrate the little victories along the way. Watching a shy dog gain confidence is one of the most rewarding experiences, and we think Rook has a bright future ahead of him. Rook is neutered, up to date on age-appropriate veterinary care, and ready to find the family that will help him shine. ❤️🐾

Story
Meet Knight 🐾 Knight is a 3-month-old neutered Chihuahua mix who is still learning that the world can be a safe place. Like his brother Rook, Knight landed on the shelter's urgent list because he was terrified. When he's scared, Knight tries to make himself feel bigger by growling, and he may snap if he feels trapped or cornered. It's important to understand that this isn't aggression—it's fear. For a puppy who has been overwhelmed, it's the only way he knows how to ask for space. The good news? Since moving into foster care, Knight has already started to relax and show us the sweet puppy underneath all that worry. With patience and understanding, we're seeing more of his true personality every day. Knight will do best in a calm home that gives him time to decompress and build confidence at his own pace. He would especially benefit from a confident, friendly dog who can help show him that people, routines, and everyday life aren't so scary. The family who adopts Knight won't just be getting a puppy—they'll be getting the chance to watch a frightened little dog grow into the companion he was always meant to be. And we think that's going to be something pretty special. Knight is neutered, up to date on age-appropriate veterinary care, and ready to find a patient home willing to help him continue his journey. ❤️🐾
