Story
Spunky, little senior lady ISO same!
Nugget is an adorable little Chihuahua, who was a rescue transfer from a nearby county shelter. When we took her in she had mammary tumors, some skin issues, and was skinny and intact. Shes had a couple of surgeries and rads since and is ready for her furrever home.
She loves her Bramble or PawCo Foods and I'm hoping to find her a plant-based home who will continue her on these fresh, real food options. (Please check out their foods before inquiring about Nugget)
All her Special points:
- She's an easy keeper - quiet, only barks when she needs out or when she's excited about her food. Sleeps a lot!
- Does great on walks - needs to be in a harness (not led by her collar due to a collapsed trachea!), and goes at a pretty good clip for a little older lady! Handles stairs like a champ (most of the time).
- Not needy. Likes attention, but doesn't seem to have the need to be on or near you all the time.
- Does well here with all her dog friends, but doesn't seem to need them. She prefers it if they are her size (vs bigger dogs).
- Loves her little sleeping bag to climb into (comes with her).
- Tolerates toe nail trims.
- Tongue is out most of the time
The (possible) Challenges:
- Has only 2 teeth - Chances are she won't need an expensive dental, but she obviously needs soft food and does ok with brittle dog cookies, like Honest to Goodness cookies.
- She's older...no real idea how old since she entered the shelter as a stray (12-14?). As time goes she'll have the typical senior needs: regular check-ups and blood work, may become incontinent, hard of hearing/ blind,...you know, senior stuff.
- Since she had mammary tumors, there's always the chance they'll return.
- Because of her collapsed trachea she has coughing/ honking fits at times. We had X-rays done and nothing obvious showed up.
- Sometimes she needs to go potty during the night, but she showed me where to put the washable pad and that's where she goes at night, if needed.
If you think this girl might be your missing soulmate, reach out! There is an adoption cost, but its not nearly what we paid in Vet bills! She's at the Oregon North Coast but is happy to travel to the Portland area for the right new home! Non-smoking home only. Bonus points for a person willing to take her to a Holistic Vet!
We are looking for the best possible home for her and are willing to wait a bit until that comes along.
