Story
📍 Location: Lexington, SC
🐾 Name: Chewy
🎂 Age: ~12 years (give or take a year) - the average lifespan of a Border Terrier is around 16 years, and it is not uncommon for them to live to 18–20 years. Chewy does not appear to be slowing down or declining in any way.
🐶 Breed: Border Terrier mix (best guess)
⚖️ Size: 11 lbs
✂️ Grooming: No formal grooming required
🚹 Sex: Male
💉 Vetting:
Neutered, up to date on rabies, DHLPP, and bordetella; heartworm negative and current on heartworm & flea prevention; dewormed and microchipped
👶🐱🐕 Good with:
Infants, children, cats, small dogs, and large dogs — he’s done well with everyone he’s met.
⚠️ Aggression / Medical:
No known aggression. No urgent medical concerns. Chewy does have some gum recession on his front teeth and will need a dental at some point down the road. This is not emergent, not causing discomfort, and there are no issues affecting the back teeth. He eats dry food without any problems.
💔 Reason for surrender:
Chewy was surrendered because his owner is currently on hospice care.
🏠 House / crate training:
Chewy does currently mark indoors, which is being easily managed with a belly band (washable options are available). We don’t yet know if this will fully resolve with time and routine, if it was influenced by past physical limitations of his owner, or if it’s a long-standing male-dog habit (which can happen even in neutered dogs).
He does wonderfully in a crate and does not have accidents in there. On the rare occasion he has had a #2 accident indoors, it has typically been my fault — I’m a heavy sleeper and didn’t wake up to his cues in time.
💛 Personality (the part that matters most):
Chewy is an incredibly sweet, gentle soul.
He loves to cuddle, enjoys being held, and settles beautifully with people. Despite his age, he gives very little indication of being a senior beyond some greying and missing teeth — his demeanor, engagement, and joy for life are all very much present.
He plays nicely with other dogs, did well in a home with an infant, and handles routine care like nail trims exceptionally well. He can be a bit of a talker at times, but is rarely a barker.

Please message me and include Chewy’s name (I’m helping multiple dogs at the moment). Adoption application and contract required to ensure a good home.
Senior dogs are often overlooked, but they love deeply, adapt quickly, and make the most loyal companions. Chewy is ready for someone to choose him. 💛🐾
