Story
We are accepting application for Tundra. We are accepting online applications only for this young man. You will be contacted in the order of acceptance to come meet him after he is neutered tomorrow, Oct 1. He is ready to go home Oct 2. Tundra – A Teddy‑Bear Puppy with Big Personality & Big Potential Tundra is a busy, bright, opinionated 3‑month‑old puppy who loves people, enjoys kids (he had a great full day playing with my 12‑ and 13‑year‑olds), and thrives when he’s part of the action. He’s playful, energetic, vocal, intelligent, and gives off strong Terrier/Cocker Spaniel vibes — a little sassy, a little stubborn, and very endearing. Like many curious puppies, he uses his mouth to explore and has shown ankle‑nipping behavior. It isn’t painful, but it is something that will require consistent training. He’s also learning how to be handled; he doesn’t mind being held, but his “squirrel brain” means he may suddenly try to jump out of your arms if something catches his attention. Emerging Traits & Training Needs As he settles in, Tundra is showing more behaviors that will benefit from structured, positive training. I strongly recommend Stephanie at Method K9 as a resource for his future adopters. Food Awareness: Tundra has been doing well being fed normally — I fill his bowl, set it down, and he eats calmly. However, when I added food to his bowl while he was eating, he growled and lunged with teeth bared. He did not bite, but this is a behavior that needs guidance. He should be fed in his own space without people or animals nearby. This can be counter‑conditioned with professional support. Kennel Behavior: Tundra can settle in a quiet, kenneled area, especially when he’s tired. If he’s overstimulated or in “puppy tantrum mode,” he may bark — a high‑pitched protest that can last around five minutes. He struggles to settle if he hears people or noises while kenneled and needs help learning to down‑regulate. Leash Skills: On leash, he is energetic and pulls in every direction. He can easily tangle someone’s feet, so homes with mobility concerns should be cautious. I’m actively working on leash training while he’s here. Settling & Focus: If you’re standing and talking to someone, Tundra can settle and observe calmly. He’s learning how to slow his busy mind, but at this age his brain runs at 100 mph. He will need extra support to learn how to relax in a way that fits his future family’s lifestyle. Car Rides: He travels well in his car kennel. He may fuss at first but quickly settles and excels here. Noise Sensitivity: Tundra shows notable noise phobia — loud music, car alarms, construction sounds. We are actively working on desensitization. Dog Interactions: He can be forward and overly energetic with small dogs, which may overwhelm seniors. He is initially nervous with larger dogs but warms up with proper introductions. Poop Eating: He eats his poop immediately if given the chance. I keep a scooper ready so he doesn’t have the opportunity. This is a common puppy behavior but requires management. Puppy Curiosity: Anything he can find goes straight into his mouth. My house became fully puppy‑proofed very quickly. Affection Style: He doesn’t cuddle in bed, but he will happily play on the bed with you. He’s more of a playful companion than a snuggly sleeper at this stage. Ideal Home Tundra would thrive with: A work‑from‑home parent A retired person A family who wants an adventure buddy Someone who enjoys an opinionated, high‑energy character He is active, loving, and full of personality — the perfect puppy for someone who wants a dog with spirit and charm. Grooming Commitment Tundra’s adorable teddy‑bear coat requires professional grooming every 4 weeks plus daily brushing. As a newly retired groomer, I charged $90 per groom for fear‑free, specialized care — adopters should be prepared for this monthly expense. He is still learning grooming manners and can get nippy when brushing his front legs and chin. He’s confused, not fearful, and will improve with continued desensitization and positive handling. Diet & Motivation Tundra is fully transitioned off raw and now eats kibble with wet food. He is eating and drinking very well and is extremely food‑motivated, which will help with training.
