Story
Hey there! I’m Rufus 🐾💙I’m a 3-year-old Blue Heeler weighing about 49 pounds (and yes, I’m currently “watching my figure” — beach body season is year-round, right? 😉). I’ve got the classic good looks, the brains to match, and enough energy to power a small city. Let’s just say… I’m not a couch potato. I’m a go-go-go kind of guy. I need space to run, things to learn, and a person who’s excited about an active lifestyle. Hiking buddy? Running partner? Agility superstar in the making? I’m your dog. 🏃♂️🌲I’m incredibly intelligent and eager to please — it’s in my DNA! I thrive with consistent training and mental challenges. I do get a little enthusiastic when saying hello (I might pop up on my back legs to greet you 🙈), but with guidance and structure, I can absolutely learn better manners. I’m great with other dogs and would love a canine friend to romp around with. I haven’t been officially tested with kids yet, but I’d likely do best with active older kids (12 and up) who understand boundaries and would enjoy running and playing with me instead of being overwhelmed by my zoomies. ⚡🐕My story started with an older couple who adopted me as a puppy. As I grew bigger and my energy blossomed, it became harder for them to keep up. For most of my three years, I lived outdoors in a small fenced area. I was fed and cared for, but I didn’t get much training or enrichment. I didn’t really get to explore the world. So now? Everything feels kind of new and exciting. Leashes. Car rides. Indoor living. All of it! 🚗🏡 I’m still figuring things out, and I’m loving the chance to learn. I especially love following my nose — sniffing adventures are my favorite. Give me a trail and I’m in heaven. What I really need is someone who sees my potential. Someone who understands that I wasn’t given the tools before — but I’m more than ready to learn now. With structure, exercise, and partnership, I will be the most loyal, hardworking, devoted companion you could ask for. 💙 If you’re ready for a smart, energetic best friend who’s eager to build a life full of adventure with you, please call the shelter at 479-394-5682 to learn more about me. Let’s go chase some dreams (and maybe a few tennis balls) together. 🎾🐾****************All animals at HSO are current on their vaccinations and will be spayed/neutered prior to adoption.
