Story
Ryder had the opportunity to spend a couple weeks in a foster home during our deep freeze. This is what his foster had to say about him: Ryder loves affection and playing with some toys. His favorite "toy time" is in the morning. He is looking for someone to share his love of the outdoors. His favorite pastimes are walks, hikes and sniffing. Ryder is well behaved in his crate. He doesn't make a sound overnight. I used the crate for sleeping and when unsupervised. He is happy to lay in his bed and hang out. Ryder is great in the house once he gets adjusted. He tried lifting his leg at first but after being corrected, he stopped. Now he whines to go out to potty. Needs: Ryder needs time to adjust to other dogs in the house. He showed a little food aggression at first but adjusted well. He needs continued leash training. He is doing so much better with pulling. He only knows a few commands. We have been working on sit and come. He does respond very well when you call his name. Ryder is back at the shelter now and available for adoption. His adoption fee is $100 which includes vaccinations, neuter and microchip.

Story
Cadie is a one-and-a-half year old female Coonhound. She's young and will love some personal attention and working with a new owner one-on-one. She is not a big fan of other dogs and best around older children only. She's got lots of energy and is in need of an active owner and a loving home. Fifty-two pounds of healthy dog.

Story
Tav is a young hound looking for his next adventure. We're not sure what his life looked like before he arrived at Sarge's, but we do know he's ready for his forever home. We suspect he is a young adult, but what we do know is he'd love some help with training. Tav needs someone devoted to enhancing his life, teaching him the ropes of life, and providing him the stability he desperately needs.

Attention: This is a courtesy posting only! This pet is NOT available through Mountain Pet Rescue.  Please do NOT contact MPR for information about the pet or apply to adopt this pet on the MPR website.  Contact Leah Porter, at 602-332-8226 or email lporter357@gmail.com for more information or to adopt the pet.Meet Mullein! He’s an approximately 9-month-old coonhound mix, with the characteristic intelligence, loyalty, curiosity, stubbornness, task orientation and food motivation, with a strong bark and bay. He’s a goofball with a lot of character and a lot of love to give! He has consistent and long lasting energy, and loves to play, explore with and rest near people and dogs alike.  Mullein is very social and would do well in a home with other younger dogs. He gets very excited to see his people; he’s a great, wiggly greeter, but knows to keep his four on the floor. He really thrives out in the woods and loves to wade and explore around water, but isn’t a big swimmer. He loves and is very excited about kids, loves playing with them, giving kisses and staying attentive to them, though he does sometimes get so excited that it can be a lot for small children.  He’d be a great companion for kids over 5. However, because of his tendency towards more dominant behavior and work to be done around his resource guarding, I would not recommend he live in a house with children without vigilant supervision, adequate training and time for his humans to get to know his communication styles and triggers. He’s very excited and curious about cats, but hasn’t had the opportunity to co-exist in a home space with them for more than one short visit. He is highly food-motivated, smart, receptive and quick to learn, with a good memory; he would thrive with a job to do. He stays near and attentive off-leash on trails and open land, and has good recall for a young pup, though of course will need to keep practicing as he matures! Mullein is crate and house-trained and is solid on his basic commands and more (sit, wait, lay down, relax, leave it, “go to bed,” sitting before going through doors or outside, etc). He sleeps in his crate at night, and rests there when he’s not being taken out, engaged with, playing or watched (he’s a smart puppy with a powerful nose and really enjoys chewing!). Like most pups, Mullein thrives with a solid routine, but gets quite restless and stressed without one, and will tell you how he’s feeling. We’re in the process of training a consistent “heel” to have easy walks while on leash.  It’s hard to resist when your nose is as good as his! We’ve also been training but still struggling with resource guarding behaviors (we are hoping that his neuter will help support this work). But he has bitten me, when younger, and when I didn’t understand how to deal with and train this behavior. He hasn’t recently - since shifting training and environmental factors - but has capacity for aggressive dominance and will need someone who can afford and commit to the work and diligence of consistent training and supervision.  (I have a trainer he’s already working well with. I’d love to connect you!)Mullein’s got a lot of learning to do, but is more than up for the task and will give back every ounce of work you put in. He needs a home with more than one experienced, consistent, active and dedicated caretaker, with plenty of options and space to roam, sniff, hunt, chew and rest.He is up to date on his vaccinations and neutered! If you’re interested in learning more or meeting Mully, contact me, Leah Porter, at 602-332-8226 or email lporter357@gmail.com with questions/your availability to meet. All Mountain Pet Rescue (Asheville) animals are up-to-date on vaccinations, spayed/neutered and micro-chipped before adoption. Contact the foster parent or Mountain Pet Rescue at pets@mpravl.org for more information. Please note that visual breed identification of companion animals has been proven to be unreliable, so for most of our animals we provide a best guess at predominant breed or breed mix. We get to know each of our animals as an individual and do our best to describe and place pets based on personality not breed label. Mountain Pet Rescue is a 501(c)(3) non-profit tax deductible charity (EIN 82-3039637) located in Asheville, NC. May 3, 2024, 4:16 pm
