BIO: Princess came from Oklahoma when her owner could no longer care for her due to health issues. She is a timid girl at first, but once she warms up to you, she is a sweet little girl who loves belly and back rubs. She does well on a regular potty schedule or uses puppy pads if you must be gone for short periods. Princess would love it if you were newly retired or if you could work from home.
We think she would be fine as an only dog because she loves attention, but also plays with the two-year-old foster in the home.
If you think you want a dachshund that will follow you all over, then she just might be the pup for you!
Our must-haves for little Princess include:
- Someone who is home more often than not or newly retired
- A fenced yard since she likes being outside as long as it’s not too cold, and if it is, then she expects you to have a sweater or coat on her
- She can be an only dog or with another dog, a small adult dog is best, no big dogs.
Don’t miss out on this sweetie! You just have to have patience at first until she gets to know you. At first, she is very timid, but if you give her space, she'll come around and want to be loved on. She needs walks. Princess is overweight, and that makes her look really fat, but it's only a pound. We'll send the right food to help her lose that weight.
============== Information for All Dogs/Adopters ==============
AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshund’s back or get bitten.
If you have questions about this dog, please feel free to contact the foster home at the email address listed on the bio form. They have the most up-to-date information concerning the dog and would be happy to answer any questions about the animal.
There will be an additional $60 fee added for a required Health Certificate if traveling out of the state in which they are being fostered.
We will not adopt into CT, RI, NH, ME, or MA due to strict laws regarding importation of dogs into those states. If you have any issue with this, you will need to take this up with your legislatures.
To understand the adoption process through AADR, please review the Adoption Information on our home page. Transportation options are outlined on that page in Step 3.

Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers who will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast or Midwest. We just can't get them from one coast to the other. Please look for dogs on your coast.
