Julius was a stray at memphis animal shelter. We believe he is a long haired or wire haired dachshund. He is estimated at 2 years of age and he weighs about 10 lbs. Julius is Heartworm negative and has been neutered. He seems timid if around a lot of dogs but is doing well in a foster home with another pair of small dogs and a cat. He does very well when crated and may be housetrained. Story
Finn is about an eight year old neutered purebred dachshund. Except for a little hair loss due to allergies, he is completely healthy and up to date on all tests and immunizations. This little boy, about 18#, lived his life with one owner. There were no other pets in the home. The lady and Finn were totally bonded, and attached at the hip. Recently, she had to go into assisted living, and Finn was not allowed to go with her. He has been in foster care for about 2-3 months. He is a chair hog when I am sitting. Like a typical burrowing dachshund, he loves to sleep under the covers. The wonderful side of his personality is that he is devoted, extremely affectionate, and charming. If you feel your situation fits his needs, please feel free to apply After reading this pet's info, if you are still interested in adopting, please fill out the online adoption application found at realgooddogrescue.com The ideal home for this Real Good Dog will have a secure fenced yard. Not sure how active they can be at this age but he likes to play still and take his walks. When Luke came to the rescue, we felt he could benefit from professional training. Luke is a wonderful pup, but having “ruled the roost” in his former life, he did have issues with guarding his possessions. We received this update from Luke’s foster mom, who is also his trainer: Luke is learning and growing in obedience commands. The best command he is learning is "leave it". He must learn “leave it” for you to safely retrieve any items he is guarding. He is doing a great job! Luke loves to snuggle and loves all the attention from anyone who is willing to give it in that moment. He has worked with both men and women and will always pay attention and respond to what he knows when food is involved. He now loves taking his long walks daily. He doesn't really care for larger dogs and gets a bit nippy when they are playing or at a heightened sense of arousal. He likes calm and wants to shut them down quickly, dachshund style. So, he stays on a leash and is learning to just observe. Not too bad at all for an older dachshund! Luke is a great pup and quite handsome to boot! BIO: Luke was an owner surrender from Tennessee. He had belonged to an elderly person who allowed him to run the household. In doing so, he picked up some bad habits. With our help, he has developed some manners, but he will need to go to an experienced dachshund owner. Luke came into rescue overweight. He has lost some weight, but he may need to lose another pound or two after he is adopted. He really is a sweet, happy boy! He loves being outside and will do zoomies in the yard in the morning. We do know that he does not like going to the vet to get his nails trimmed, and a muzzle must be used. We also know that he doesn’t care for strangers. New people coming into the home would need to be made aware of this and not just walk in. Therefore, we think a quieter home would be best for him, one with few visitors. Taking Luke out for walks and to non-stressful environments, such as PetSmart, would be great for him. If you are looking for a standard, then here is your chance. Please help Luke find his last forever home. Our must-haves for adorable Luke include: A fenced yard A quieter home He can be an only dog or with another small, adult dog Only adult children in the home, 14 years plus An approved adopter will need to go to Winston-Salem, NC to meet Luke and his foster mom/trainer to learn how to continue his newly learned commands. No apartments, high-rises, or condos ============== Information for All Dogs/Adopters ============== AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshund’s back or get bitten. If you have questions about this dog, please feel free to contact the foster home at the email address listed on the bio form. They have the most up-to-date information concerning the dog and would be happy to answer any questions about the animal. We will not adopt into CT, RI, NH, ME, or MA due to strict laws regarding importation of dogs into those states. If you have any issue with this, you will need to take this up with your legislatures. To understand the adoption process through AADR, please review the Adoption Information on our home page. Transportation options are outlined on that page in Step 3. He has lots of energy so a active family is needed for him. Hugo is seeking an adopter who works from home or is a stay-at-home person and an active walker/jogger. He came from North Carolina and has been in 3 homes in his 9 months of life... why?! No one has taken the time to socialize him and work with him on manners. He’s still a puppy, for goodness’ sake, but he’s smart and will learn quickly. Hugo needs someone who won't give up on him, as the other 3 homes have. Are you that family? All he wants is love and a home! This boy needs stability, so we need to know you will be with him for the rest of his days. Our must-haves for adorable Hugo include: A fenced yard Someone who has the patience to work with him and is not looking for a perfect rescue Another small young dog for him to play with, because he loves to play Someone who works from home would be great No apartments, high-rises, or condos ============== Information for All Dogs/Adopters ============== AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime.
