Story
Uncle Lewis is about 2 years old and 17 lbs! Lewis is a quiet, thoughtful soul who’s spent most of his life fending for himself. Because of that, he’s learned to rely on independence instead of people—and the idea of love and safety is still new to him. But underneath that cautious exterior is a tender heart just waiting for the right person to show him the world isn’t so scary.Lewis feels safest in the company of calm dogs and in the comfort of his kennel, where he can decompress and observe life at his own pace. He has an avoidant attachment style and needs time, patience, and gentle consistency to learn that humans can be kind. Loud voices, sudden movements, or physical corrections would shut him down completely—he needs a home rooted in softness and respect. He’s also a clever little escape artist, always thinking five steps ahead, so his future family will need secure fencing and a watchful eye. Ideally, Lewis would thrive in a home with at least one calm, confident dog to help show him the ropes. Fast, unpredictable things—like a child on a scooter—can overwhelm him, so a quiet, adult-only household would be best. At this time, we’re unsure how he feels about men or cats.Lewis isn’t a “plug-and-play” dog—he’s a healing heart looking for a patient guide. But for the person willing to meet him where he is, the reward will be watching a once-fearful pup slowly bloom into a dog who finally knows what it means to feel safe.Could you be the gentle home Uncle Lewis has been waiting for?To apply to have your home considered for adoption, read about our adoption process or fees, and find out about interstate transport, please visit our website at https://longwayhome.org/adopt.❤ Long Way Home makes no guarantees on breed--most animals we receive from shelters are mixed breeds.

Story
🐶 Meet Tyson — Your Loyal Little Shadow! 🤍Tyson is a 12-year-old, 12.5 lb bundle of pure sweetness who just wants to be wherever you are. He’s the ultimate sidekick — if you’re showering, he’ll be patiently waiting outside the curtain; if you’re in the kitchen, he’s your sous-chef; and when it’s time to relax, he’s right next to you, curled up and content. 🥹🐾This gentle boy has been through a lot. Found as a stray, we learned his original owner had rehomed him, and sadly, his most recent family couldn’t be reached. Despite everything, Tyson’s heart remains full of love and trust. 💕When he first arrived, Tyson was battling a terrible UTI and some scary kidney values — but with treatment and care, he bounced back beautifully! His kidneys are doing great now. He does have a little bladder dribbling here and there, and he takes daily medication to manage his seizures, but don’t worry — he’s as easygoing and sweet as they come. 💊✨Tyson is looking for a calm, loving home where he can finally feel safe and cherished for the rest of his golden years. In return, he’ll give you endless cuddles, loyalty, and the best companionship you could ask for.If you’re searching for a devoted little shadow to fill your home (and heart) with love, Tyson’s your guy. 🤍Despite all he’s been through, Tyson’s heart is pure gold. He’s gentle, affectionate, and adores people as well as dogs of all sizes. He appears to be potty trained, and while his leash skills need a little polishing, he’s giving it his best shot.🙌If you’re searching for a laid-back, loyal companion who will love you endlessly, Tyson is your boy! He’s the perfect size to be your constant cuddle buddy and lifelong shadow. Tyson wants to go home with you TODAY!💗📍Based in Bryan, Texas. Story
Meet our Punky boy! At 17 years old, and with 18 lbs of love, Punky is…Spunky (on his schedule) ✔️Stubborn ✔️Snack-obsessed ✔️A certified cuddle lover ✔️Punky is the perfect mix of chill + personality. He loves lounging around, soaking up back scratches and ear rubs… but don’t be surprised if he has a little burst of energy to keep things interesting.😅He gets along great with other dogs, but fair warning, if there’s food nearby, he will try to negotiate extra servings! He’s not a fan of the kennel (very vocal about it), and he’ll need someone patient as he adjusts! But truly, this little man just wants love and someone to be near. ❤️Punky came to us after losing his mom—his whole world. He stood by her through her cancer battle, never leaving her side. From a tiny pup to 17 years old… she was everything to him. Now, he deserves to feel safe and loved again. We are currently running more tests due to some elevated calcium levels, and while there could be something more serious such as cancer, we’re still working to get answers. But no matter what… Punky deserves a home.Whether it’s months or years, he deserves comfort, love, and a soft place to land!🐾If you’ve ever thought about giving a senior dog a chance… this is your sign.Let’s rewrite the next chapter of Punky’s story!✨📍Based in Bryan, Texas. Story
How is our sweet girl still looking for her forever home?! 🥹Puddles is an affectionate little snuggle bug who just wants to be right next to her person at all times. Her absolute favorite place? Curled up under a blanket, tucked in close, snoozing happily by your side!💛She’s also good with respectful kiddos, but may bark if things get a little too loud or chaotic around her. Cats are a no-go for Pudds—she loves to chase critters and would do best in a kitty-free home! 🐾She thrives in a calm, predictable environment and does best with other dogs who are more submissive and low-energy!🐶She’s a tiny food thief (you’ve been warned! 😉) and while toys aren’t really her thing, she does enjoy a good bone to chew on. Despite having IVDD, Puddles still enjoys the little things—short walks, fresh air, and especially her stroller rides (yes, she LOVES them!). 💊Puddles does have a bit of anxiety, which she manages with Fluoxetine and Trazodone as needed. She’s been working hard on her crate training—she may cry for about 20 minutes after you leave, but she settles in once she realizes everything is okay. At 8 years old and just 13 pounds, she’s the perfect little companion for someone looking for a calm, cuddly best friend! She doesn’t need much—just a cozy blanket, a peaceful home, and someone to love her as much as she’ll love you. 🏡💕Could that be you?To apply to have your home considered for adoption, read about our adoption process or fees, and find out about interstate transport, please visit our website at https://longwayhome.org/adopt.❤ Long Way Home makes no guarantees on breed--most animals we receive from shelters are mixed breeds.
