Story
It is quite a surprise to find a Devon Rex in rescue. In 18 yrs of fostering I have only had one other. ( Darling Edna) When my local shelter called me about her I was there in minutes. A breeder had surrendered five young cats to the shelter, a Devon and four Ragdolls, all female, none spayed, and one we decided was probably pregnant. I named this vivid calico treasure Alice right away. She is little - 6.2 pounds. Curled up to sleep she looks like a largish, colorful cantaloupe. Quite the entertainer, she settled right in with us -nothing that has happened in her life has seemed to slow her down at all. This is typical of Devons; they are smart, active, extremely playful kitties. Alice's long legs and big feet make her a great jumper (sometimes Devons are found snoozing on the top of a open door). They are trainable kitties and often play games like fetch with their owners.Their active minds match their active bodies and they like entertaining challenges. Devons are good family cats and generally like children and other pets. Alice has probably been around many kitties and plays happily with the ones she arrived with so I am looking for a home with other kitties for her. She would probably love a bouncy dog. Do you know where Devons came from?? They came from Devon, England of course. No, they are not related at all to Cornish Rexes. A woman in Devon had a kitty who had a spontaneous mutation that produced unusual, eccentric wavy fur. She started a new breed that was recognized by the U.S. Cat Fancy Assn in 1979. Devons have triangular heads with extra big, low set ears and big eyes. Their fur is thin, not dense, and has almost no long guard hairs. It does its own thing. People enjoy Devons because they are all different and all highly odd. Devon Rexes are a low maintenance kitty and not only do not need much grooming they actually do better without much brushing. Their soft hair can easily break and exuberant grooming can create unwanted bare patches. A gentle wipe down with a damp cloth once a week is all they need. This little ball of energy is great fun. Some family will be so lucky to have her company. She currently wiggles a lot if you hold her but other than that she loves being petted. Do you work in the home or are you retired? Do you have lots of time to play with her? She will be such an entertaining companion for some lucky family. P.S. She has a microchip in her that tells us she is likely from Ukraine or Russia. Alice is spayed, vaccinated, FELV tested, dewormed, microchipped, eats wet and dry food, and is litterbox perfect. She is fostered by Harriet in Santa Cruz. Purebreds Plus Cat Rescue is dedicated to matching exceptional cats with qualified adopters who will cherish their pet and create an ideal forever home. If you believe you are the perfect adopter for Alice please tell us why in the comments section of our Adoption Application, and contact Harriet at harrietluvskitties@yahoo.com If you are unable to reach Harriet please email us at info@purebredsplus.org. NOTE: We prefer families with children bring them to the adoption appointment. Why? This allows interaction between the children and the cat. This helps ensure they will be a good fit for each other. A mismatch between a child and a cat is not in anyone's best interests!
