Harlow is a gorgeous cropped and docked Doberman who adores her humans. She squints her eyes when looking up at her people and shows submission in all interactions with people. She is a prime example of the breed with strong maternal instincts. Harlow wants to be included and with her humans, she sleeps deeply next to her foster mother but respects space and boundaries. She carries stuffed toys around and spends her day 'gathering' the babies and keeps one toy with her. Harlow is respectful of humans and will allow food, toys to be taken from her. Her resource guarding of the 'babies' impacts her willingness to share toys with other dogs, will snap and growls at them resulting in bites. Outside during playgroups, away from toys, Harlow follows other dogs around and can be social. Harlow is not dog aggressive - ignores other dogs outside her foster home, on walks, at vet clinic and at events. Based on her intense protection of her things, being an only dog would be easiest but not necessary if a family is willing to use separation and supervision with other pets. Harlow is microchipped, spayed, up to date on vaccines, heartworm testing negative and on prevention (ProHeart12, NexGard). Last weight - 74 lbs. Guessed to be 5 years old. Alfina has a tell. You can actually watch the moment she decides someone is safe. Her body softens, her eyes relax, and those adorable ears that usually sit at attention slowly flop forward onto her forehead. It’s a small thing, but her foster family knows exactly what it means. The walls are coming down. The cautious little puppy who spent part of her early life figuring out how to survive is finally ready to let someone in. At first, she’s thoughtful and observant, taking in the world around her before deciding how she’d like to participate. Then you’ll catch glimpses of the puppy her foster family knows so well. The one who chases her dog friends around the yard, and lights up when it’s time for treats. Pay close attention to her ears. If they’re flopped forward, you’ve officially earned a place in her circle. Estimated to be around 6 months old and weighing approximately 25 lbs, Alfina appears to be a Doberman Pincher and German Shepherd mix, though as with all rescue dogs, her breed and age are simply our best educated guess. Alfina has been with her foster family for a little over a month, and she’s come a long way since the day they found her. She was completely alone and so unsure of people that they had to carefully trap her in order to bring her to safety. Experiences like that don’t disappear overnight, and Alfina still approaches new people with a healthy dose of caution. She’s not the puppy who’s going to launch herself into a stranger’s lap five minutes after meeting them. Instead, she prefers to watch, think, and decide for herself when she’s ready. The wonderful thing about Alfina is that once she’s comfortable, she’s incredibly affectionate. She genuinely loves being loved. The trust she gives isn’t automatic, which somehow makes it feel even more special when she chooses to share it. Dogs, however, are a different story. Alfina absolutely adores other dogs. If there is a canine friend nearby, chances are she’s already figuring out how to join whatever game they’re playing. She currently lives with four other dogs and gets along beautifully with all of them. Her favorite playmate happens to be one of the smaller dogs in the home because chasing, running, and zooming around together are among her favorite activities. Watching Alfina with other dogs is a little like watching someone finally speak their native language. It’s where she seems most comfortable and most confident. She’s equally charmed by the home’s orange cat, who apparently never got the memo that he’s supposed to act like a cat. This laid-back feline enjoys playing like one of the dogs, and Alfina has enthusiastically embraced the friendship. Their games have become one of her favorite parts of the day. Life with Alfina is becoming easier by the week because she’s a remarkably smart puppy. She’s already well on her way to being potty trained, regularly holding it through the night and heading outside to do her business first thing in the morning. Food is also a powerful language in Alfina’s world. She loves meals, loves treats, and is always happy to participate in activities that involve snacks. Training her has been made considerably easier thanks to her enthusiasm for both. She currently lives with a two-year-old child and has proven herself to be a wonderful companion. The little boy is active, playful, and constantly on the move, which suits Alfina just fine. One of their favorite games involves him running around the couch while encouraging her to follow along with a rope toy. Tug-of-war is another household favorite. Their friendship feels genuine, and the affection clearly goes both ways. At home, Alfina is quiet. She rarely feels the need to announce herself and doesn’t typically bark unless the other dogs have decided there’s something worth discussing. Even then, she’s more likely to join the conversation than start it. She has shown no signs of aggression and navigates life with a gentle, respectful nature. Alfina also settles nicely when it’s time to relax. Whether she’s spending time in a kennel or a more confined space, she handles it well and understands that downtime is simply part of the routine. Because other dogs have played such a big role in helping Alfina feel safe and confident, we would love to see her join a home with at least one friendly canine companion. Another dog won’t just be a playmate for her. It will be a guide, a comfort, and someone to show her that new experiences aren’t nearly as scary as they first seem. Elys has a gentle curiosity about her that makes her incredibly easy to enjoy. She wants to see what you are doing, investigate where you are going, sniff whatever might be new and happily come along for the adventure, but she approaches the world with a little thoughtfulness instead of charging straight through it. She is affectionate without being demanding, playful without being wild, and surprisingly composed for a puppy who is still growing into those long legs and floppy ears. We believe she may be a Shepherd/Doberman mix, but with animal rescue, breeds are always a mystery and never an exact science! She is currently fostered in a loving home with two adult Dobermans who are both older and larger than she is. Living alongside them has given Elys plenty of experience sharing her world with other dogs, and she enjoys playing with them, although their rough-and-tumble style can sometimes be a little more than her naturally gentler play style prefers. That thoughtfulness really shows when Elys meets new dogs. She is polite and appropriately submissive, and if another dog comes into her space with a little too much enthusiasm, Elys may roll onto her back and wait for things to settle down. She isn't looking for a canine wrecking ball to crash into the introduction. She would much rather have a friendly dog who gives her a moment to get comfortable and lets her go from zero to ninety on her own timeline. With a gentle, calm and friendly playmate, we think Elys would be right at home. She has also shown a lovely ability to read other dogs and adjust accordingly. If another dog communicates that they would like some space, Elys listens. Rather than pushing the issue, she changes her approach and moves along, which is a pretty wonderful social skill for a dog this young. Elys also met our house cat and was cautiously respectful. She was interested without being pushy and did a nice job giving him space, so we could see her successfully living with a dog-savvy cat. As with any young dog learning the mysterious rules of feline society, she will need thoughtful introductions, supervision and basic boundaries while everyone gets acquainted. For such a young dog, Elys already has an impressive head start. She is house and crate trained, rides beautifully in the car and has great basic leash skills, so she is ready to head out for walks with her future family. She is also very food motivated, eager to learn and responsive to gentle redirection. Her foster has already put plenty of structure and consistency into her life, and Elys has shown that she is a bright girl who genuinely enjoys figuring out what her people are asking of her. Outside, her curious side really comes alive. She enjoys exploring the yard, going for walks and investigating whatever happens to catch her attention. She has even shown an interest in the pool, carefully wandering over to inspect the water and consider exactly what everyone finds so fascinating about it. She may not be ready to cannonball in, but she certainly wants to conduct a thorough investigation. Elys would be such a lovely fit for a home that wants the fun of a young dog without needing everything to operate at maximum volume. She still wants walks, playtime, training, adventures and opportunities to explore, but she seems happiest when the world around her feels friendly and manageable.
