Story
Meet Michonne – The 12-Year-Young Dutch Shepherd With Puppy Spirit!Michonne may be 12 years old, but don’t let the number fool you — this spry, spayed Dutch Shepherd is living proof that age is just a statistic. She has the grace of a wise old soul and the energy of a dog half her age. She even jogs with volunteers, casually reminding everyone that she’s still got moves. She loves treats and sits politely for them, showing off her good manners like a true lady.At the fence, Michonne has shown friendly behavior with several dogs — lots of nose sniffing and even a few face kisses. Her previous family shared many wonderful things: she’s housebroken, good on leash, has had training, and was friendly with adults and children. She didn’t escape and loved chew toys and bones. Playful, smart, devoted, and full of life, Michonne is ready for her next chapter — one where she can enjoy love, comfort, and all the treats she sits so nicely for. She may be a senior, but she’s still got plenty of joy, energy, and heart to give.

Story
Jesse is a graduate of our dog training program at Northeastern New Mexico Correctional Facility. Her handler writes: "Jesse is a 1-year-old Dutchy/Belgian shepherd mix. She is still a puppy who loves to play with all dogs and her people all day if you let her. I say her people, because once she bonds and you gain her full trust, she won't leave your side. When she is playing with people, she's very gentle, and she doesn't bite or bark. "In fact, Jesse hardly ever barks, even when she's outside. She doesn't jump on people except for when she is playing or when she gets excited to see the one person she fully bonds with, if you're gone for a while. "Jesse is easy to walk on the leash. She pulls just a little - not enough to drag you around. If you stop, she will, too. She is fully housetrained, meaning she won't go inside unless she is sick; even with that, she'll hold it for as long as possible. She doesn't chew things up. "She is crate trained, but she will need a crate with a large opening. She is place mat trained, and she knows sit, down, stay, and her recall. The other tricks she knows are crawl, roll over, mine and yours, give it, shake, high five, and fetch. She loves fetch. She sits pretty, but she stands on her back legs and wraps her front paws around your forearm. She will even take treats from your lips very gently. "Whoever adopts her needs to have a big yard for her to run around in. To be honest, if I could keep her for myself for the rest of my time and take her with me when I go home, I would. She also loves to play in the water and snow. She doesn't like to get a bath, but she loves to be toweled off. When she has bad dreams, she has this quiet little warble. Loud noises and sudden, fast movements freak her out. I talk to her like she was a little girl, and she does understand me, too. She knows that dog call is time to use the bathroom. Rec call, she knows it's training/playtime, and she knows, "Do you want to go play?" means it's playtime.

Story
Meet Boy – Your New Adventure Buddy! Boy is a 1-year-old, 53-pound Dutch Shepherd mix with a heart full of playfulness and curiosity. This cute, energetic pup loves toys, belly rubs, and being around people. He’s eager for attention and enjoys every moment of it!Boy walks nicely on leash and was easy to handle—he’s off to a great start with his manners. While he doesn’t know “sit” yet, he’s very gentle taking treats and would absolutely thrive in a positive, reward-based training class with you. He’s been social and friendly with other dogs through the fence and seems interested in making canine friends, so a meet and greet is recommended if you already have dogs at home.Boy would do best in an adult-only home due to some food-guarding behavior, but with patience and understanding, he’ll blossom into a loyal companion. If you’re looking for a fun, affectionate young dog who’s ready to join you on hikes, walks, and adventures, Boy might just be the perfect match!
