Please note: We do not transport dogs. Approved adopters will schedule an appointment for a meet-and-greet at People 'n' Pets, Freeze Dried Goodies & Gear in Dover-Foxcroft, Maine, where you’ll get to meet Tide in person — and hopefully take home your new best friend. If you think Tide might be “the one,” we’d love to hear from you! Health & Background &#226&#156&#133 Neutered &#226&#156&#133 Rabies and all core vaccines up to date &#226&#156&#133 Heartworm/Tick 4DX test: Negative across the board &#226&#156&#133 On monthly flea/tick preventatives &#226&#156&#133 Microchipped &#226&#154&#150&#239&#184&#143 Weight: potential 50-60 pounds Estimated DoB: 23 May 2025 Meet Tide Tide is truly an amazing boy. He has a full package of looks, personality, and yes — he’s a master manipulator! Even after multiple visits to the emergency hospital in Southern Maine, all the staff fell in love with him. One vet even emailed his information to a colleague in New Hampshire just to share what a special pup he is. Medical Background As a young puppy, Tide developed weakness in his legs and, at one point, couldn’t stand or walk. After several trips to the emergency hospital and various treatments, he was diagnosed with two growth-related bone conditions: Hypertrophic Osteodystrophy (HOD) and Panosteitis. Panosteitis (sometimes called “growing pains”) is a temporary, painful inflammation of the long bones that affects young, fast-growing dogs, particularly large-breed mixes like Tide. Symptoms include shifting lameness and discomfort in the legs. Panosteitis is self-limiting, meaning it usually resolves on its own as the dog matures, typically by 18–24 months. Treatment focuses on managing pain and rest during flare-ups. Hypertrophic Osteodystrophy (HOD) is another painful bone condition seen in fast-growing puppies. It can cause fever, swelling, thickened bones, lameness, and general discomfort. The exact cause isn’t fully understood, but genetics, nutrition, and infections may all play a role. Most dogs improve as they finish growing, and severe cases are treated with medications, rest, and sometimes hospitalization. Surgery is rarely needed. Tide is currently on prednisone to manage inflammation and pain, and he is thriving! Prednisone is generally used during flare-ups or when symptoms are more pronounced. As he grows and his bones stabilize, he may not need medication continuously — likely only intermittently for temporary stiffness during growth spurts. By around 2 years old, he is expected to be completely done with active symptoms from both conditions. Even when he couldn’t walk as a puppy, Tide’s sweet personality shone through. He would drag himself around to enjoy attention from vets and staff, and now he’s a playful, confident, and mischievous pup. He sometimes gets a little stiff during growth spurts, but these flare-ups are temporary, and he responds well to medication and rest. Personality & Temperament Tide is a gentle, loving, and affectionate pup. He’s full of confidence and mischief, loves attention, and thrives in an active environment. Despite his medical history, he is playful, curious, and completely puppy at heart. He enjoys interacting with people and other dogs, and he’s always ready to bring joy and energy into his home. Best Buddies Tide is inseparable from his sister Robin. Whether cuddling up for naps or getting into mischief, these two are always together. We would love to see them adopted as a pair so they can continue sharing adventures and companionship in their forever home. Adoption Details Adoption Fee: $550 Location: Sebec, Maine Families must complete and submit an adoption questionnaire. Once approved, you’ll be invited to schedule an appointment to meet Tide. &#226&#143&#177&#239&#184&#143 Applications are generally processed within 24-48 hours Click here to complete the Adoption Questionnaire Want to See More of Tide? Equal parts genius, goofball, and cuddle bug. Bart is the kind of dog who makes you laugh, impresses you daily, and melts your heart with a single look; especially if you’ve forgotten his mandatory snout kiss. From the moment he arrived, Bart showed us he’s no ordinary pup. He’s the smartest dog we’ve ever fostered, lightning-fast to learn commands, eager to please, and always watching with those expressive eyes that seem to say, “What’s next, coach?” We lovingly call him our “soldier dog” because once he bonds with you, he’s loyal for life. My favorite trick I’ve taught him? “Walk”, where he trots beside you, eyes locked on yours, like a tiny four-legged bodyguard. Bart is fully house trained and he has a hilarious habit of “karate chopping” you awake if he thinks you’ve overslept. He thrives on stimulation. Whether it’s romping in the yard or going to town on a heavy-duty chew toy. Boredom is not in his vocabulary. He’s also a master of facial expressions. One minute he’s giving you side-eye for withholding kisses, the next he’s pulling a goofy grin that makes you forget whatever you were doing. He’s a total ham. Bart gets along great with our dogs after a slow and thoughtful introduction. He’s gentle and playful with kids (ages 6 and 14), and while we’re not sure how he’d do with cats, his sensitive side suggests he’d be more curious than confrontational. He does have one quirk: loud noises like dropped objects or slamming doors can startle him enough to cause a little accident. But with time, patience, and love, we’re confident he’ll outgrow it. If you’re looking for a dog who’s whip-smart, endlessly entertaining, and fiercely devoted, Bart is your guy. He’ll challenge you, charm you, and love you with everything he’s got. Honestly, we don’t want to let him go, but we know he’s destined to be someone’s perfect forever dog. One Week Foster Update Bart is a stunning 6-month-old Belgian Malinois mix with a heart of gold. He’s the absolute sw est little man, and he’s perfected a few moves to get your attention. He’ll do what we call his "sweet face," sticking his nose up and giving you a side-eye until you give him a good ear scratch.   But if that doesn't work, he’ll try his "double-tap"—putting one paw on your lap, and then both paws, all while making his cute pointed puppy face. Bart is as smart as he is adorable. He's already mastered several tricks with us and, with the right dedicated family, he’ll be a quick study for even more.   This playful pup is a big fan of soccer balls and LOVES romping around with his foster siblings. He will happily take a treat as a reward, but love and affection is his ideal reward.   As a young Malinois mix, Bart is a higher-energy dog who needs plenty of outdoor time, so we take him out for 10-20 minute sessions three to four times a day. At least until he learns his new families routine. He’s a perfect mix of couch potato and running partner; he’ll happily nap with you indoors but is also ready to run around if you are.   Bart will thrive with a devoted family who understands his need for both mental and physical exercise. He’s ready to give his whole heart to the right people.
