Story
Meet Kendall & Kylie — Two Sweethearts on the Road to Recovery. Kendall and Kylie arrived at Polk County Humane Society after wandering together, clearly bonded and looking for safety. Unfortunately, both girls tested positive for heartworms—a serious but treatable condition. Thanks to our generous donors and veterinary partners, PCHS covers the full cost of their heartworm treatment. But we need adopters or fosters who can commit to the care these girls need during recovery. What Heartworm Treatment Involves: Oral medications administered at home. Veterinary visits for a series of injections. Strict activity restriction for several weeks, including crate rest or confinement to small areas indoors, leash-only potty breaks and outdoor time and no running, jumping, or rough play. This quiet recovery period is essential to ensure the heartworms are safely eliminated without complications. Are you the one who can help one or both of these girls transition from survivors to thrivers? If you're interested in adopting me, fill out an adoption application online at www.polkcountyhumanesociety.org/adopt where you will also find a link to reserve me for an appointment. Some pets are in foster homes or may already have an appointment scheduled, so the appointment is important to make sure I will be available to meet you when you come. Polk County Humane Society is located in Bolivar, Missouri, but also makes transports to the Denver, CO, Des Moines, IA and St. Louis areas twice monthly. For potential adopters in those areas, we can do a virtual visit using FaceTime or another app. Just request an appointment using the same link, but note that you want the visit to be virtual. We will call you at the time of the visit once it is confirmed. For long distance transports to Colorado and Iowa, there is an additional $100 fee to cover the cost of the transport ($65) and a health certificate from a veterinarian ($35). For transports to St. Louis, the additional fee is $50 to help cover gas. Going that last mile home for our sweet pets! All of our pets are neutered or spayed, have vaccinations appropriate for their age, treated with flea/tick/heartworm prevention, dewormed and dogs are also microchipped. #adoptdontshop ##2470141##

Story
Meet Jacobean🐾💙 Jacobean is an adorable almost 4-month-old male Golden Retriever puppy with a beautiful warm golden coat and the sweetest, most soulful eyes. He has all the wonderful traits that make Golden Retrievers so special—friendly, affectionate, curious, and eager to be part of the family. His current weight is 20 pounds and noticeably smaller than his litter mate, so he may grow on the smaller side of a Golden Retrievers, but only time will tell. Jacobean visited the vet and he is up to date on all his vaccinations. He is a healthy puppy and was started on Heart worm Prevention. He did test positive for Giardia and is currently under treatment. Probiotics and medications should have his gut happier in no time. Jacobean is an active, curious little explorer who loves people and enjoys being involved in everything happening around him. He is incredibly amicable and social, and he quickly becomes friends with everyone he meets. He loves playing with kids and happily joins their games and activities. Jacobe is also the kind of puppy who will follow you around the house, always wanting to be close to his people and see what you’re doing. In his foster home, Jacobean has two large foster brothers who are his best buddies. He loves playing with them, following them around, and learning from them. He is also a very smart puppy and learns quickly. In just a few days he has already learned how to: • give sweet kisses • play with toys • drink from a water fountain And he keeps learning more every day. Jacobean loves water, and one of his favorite parts of the day is jumping into the shower to get wet and play with the water. It’s one of his happiest little daily adventures. Jacobean is currently learning potty training and walking on a leash, and he’s making great progress. Despite his playful side, Jacobean is also incredibly affectionate and cuddly. One of his favorite things is snuggling in bed with his people and soaking up all the love. When you pet him, he even makes the cutest little happy noises, as if he’s telling you how much he loves the attention. Did we mention he loves food? Mealtime is definitely one of his favorite moments of the day, which also makes training fun and rewarding for him. Jacobean is a wonderful combination of playful, loving, and eager to learn, and he will make an amazing companion for a family ready to help him continue growing into the incredible dog he is meant to be. ❤️ Leia’s Hope is a volunteer – run, Foster – based rescue. All of our dogs live in foster homes. Applications typically take 7 to 10 business days to process, meet & greets are scheduled only after an application is approved. We do not transport dogs; adopters must travel to the dog’s location in Troy, Missouri for the meet & greet and adoption. Jacobean is a 15 year commitment, and his adopter must be prepared to love and support him for his lifetime. Location:Troy, MO To apply, visit Leiashope.org
