Story
Hola! My name is Mateo and here is some info about me: PHYSICAL INFO: Breed: Foxhound / Labrador Mix (best guess!) Age: Approx. 5 years old Gender: Male Weight: 64 lbs (29 kg) Height: 74 cm (paws to top of my head) Length: 83 cm (head to butt) Neck Circumference: 43 cm Chest Circumference:  78 cm Current Location: MEXICO CITY RESCUE STORY - I was found wandering the streets of Mexico all alone. Life hadn't been easy for me, and I was showing signs of malnutrition, including hair loss. Despite everything I had been through, I remained friendly with people and curious about the world around me. A kind rescuer brought me to a boarding facility where I could be safe and receive proper care. Unfortunately, my rescuer disappeared and left me behind. Thankfully, the wonderful people at the boarding facility (Perrito's House) continued caring for me and made sure I received the nutrition, medical care, and love that I needed. Today, I've gained healthy weight, my coat has grown back beautifully, and I'm ready to find the forever family I've been waiting for! While I'm well cared for at Perrito's House, I long for a home to call my own! TEMPERAMENT - I'm a sweet, affectionate, and easygoing boy who genuinely enjoys being around people. I love receiving pets, attention, and cuddles, and I'm known for following my humans around in hopes of earning a few extra scratches and kisses. I'm friendly with new people and don't tend to be shy or fearful. While I'm a calm and laid-back guy, I still enjoy gentle play sessions with both humans and other dogs. I'm the type of dog who would be happy joining you for a leisurely walk and then curling up beside you afterward for some quality cuddle time. As with all rescue dogs, I will need time to settle into my new home. Patience, understanding, and allowing me to adjust at my own pace will help me feel safe and confident as I transition into family life. Quick Facts for Adopters: Energy Level: Balanced (Calm and chill, with playful moments) Leash Manners: Likes calm/slow walks Social Compatibility: Great with dogs of all sizes and people, prefer gentle play Special Quirks: Follows you around to get pets and kisses. Behavioral Notes: Gentle and trusting despite his past. ENERGY LEVEL: Medium-Low – I enjoy daily walks and spending time outdoors, but I'm not a high-energy dog. I prefer calm strolls where I can explore my surroundings at my own pace. Once my exercise needs are met, I'm more than happy to relax and enjoy a quiet evening with my people. GETS ALONG WITH: Kids – Unknown. I have not been tested with children. Dogs – Yes. I live at a busy "doggy pension" and get along well with other dogs and am accustomed to sharing my space with canine companions. I enjoy gentle interactions and coexist peacefully with dogs of various sizes. One thing to note is that while I'm comfortable eating near other dogs, I prefer they don't try to eat from my food bowl. Respecting my space during mealtimes helps everyone stay happy!  Cats – Unknown. I have not been tested with cats. PREY DRIVE - Unknown. I’m not too sure how I’ll react around squirrels/rabbits etc., so my adopter needs to be prepared and willing to train me through these behaviours, should they arise. TRAINING: Leash skills – Pretty good! I enjoy calm, leisurely walks and like taking time to explore my surroundings. I will need an adopter who is happy to continue working with me on my leash manners. A well-fitted harness and some dedicated leash training will help set me up for success! Check out some videos of me on leash here and here. House trained – Work in progress. Frequent potty breaks and positive reinforcement will help me learn housetraining in my new home :) Please Note: WCP highly encourages adopters to do some research and training on their own before their dog arrives. HEALTH NOTES: I am neutered, vaccinated, and microchipped. I will come to Canada with proof of all my vaccines and test records. I will be tested for Heartworm etc. before flying to Canada. NOTE: It is not uncommon for rescue dogs to require dental work/cleaning after they are adopted. West Coast Paws does not cover the costs of dental work and/or vet visits. These costs are the financial responsibility of the adopter. ADOPTION FEE: My adoption fee is $728.00 CAD including tax ($650.00 + 5% GST, 7% PST), which includes my airfare, if a flight volunteer is found directly to Vancouver. ------------------------------------- DISCLAIMER: Please visit wcpdogrescue.com to read about West Coast Paws Dog Rescue and its adoption process.
