Story
Sadly southren dogs that are not given heartworm prevention from puppy hood on will eventually get heartworm. The shelters and ACOs that get these dogs into their custody have a very difficult time getting them into rescue and with barely money for food they can not afford to treat. This would sadly mean euthanasia for most of them. These are wonderful dogs that deserve nothing but a loving home and with your help we not only save them, but save many more. We currently have one or more dog(s) for adoption that is/are heartworm positive. Due to other states not allowing the transport of heartworm dogs into their states they can only go to Vermont residents. You will adopt them, but we will pay for their treatments. The vet we use is in Rutland, VT so anyone that wants one of these dogs must be able to bring them to the vet for treatment. They will be on Doxy (oral medication) for a month, nothing for a month, get the first injection, start pred for a month, get the 2nd injection and the next day get the 3rd and final injection and have to stay on the pred medication for one more month. After the injections they have to be kept VERY quiet. This means using a crate and leash walks only. No playing or long walks and no rough housing with other dogs. It is important in the time up to the first injection you get them use to being in a crate, we can provide one. This will last from the first injection until a month after the last one. I know this seems like a lot to ask of you, but just a few short months and a little inconvenience will save a life (really 2 lives as this will mean we can take another one) and improve yours with an amazing best friend that will be forever grateful. If you have specific questions we can answer them or get answers from our vet or talk to your vet. I have personally cared for 3 dogs while they underwent treatment and though it seemed scary at first it was no where as bad as I had thought it would be. We have had over 20 dogs go through treatment while in their adopted homes and have had 100% success with no issues. Be a hero and adopt a heartworm positive dog!!

Story
French bulldog lovers, pay attention to this posting!! Athena is a gorgeous Frenchie mix. She is 7 years old and 33 pounds. To love Athena, you must love adorable snores and the excited, goofy, unique sounds she makes. Athena adores people with all her heart, but has to be the only pet. She has a scar on one of her eyes, believed to have been caused by a cat. The vet said the eye is healed, and though she may have some vision loss, she has adjusted well and it won't cause any future issues. She is a great mix of walking partner and couch cuddlier, though most of the time she would prefer the cuddles! She has good leash manners, loves car rides, and once used to her home, can be off-leash. Though Athena was a local surrender, she is heartworm positive. Her adoption fee includes the treatment, but the adopter is responsible for getting her to the appointments at our vet in Rutland. You can read more about this in the heartworm positive post. Athena has become a staff and volunteer favorite, and once you meet her, you'll know why! Being heartworm positive, Athena can only be adopted by a Vermont resident. This is due to the strict animal import laws of other states. For more information, please read the heartworm positive post. Adoption fee-$250

Story
A BIG Personality seeking her own Social Media ! Cynthia Petunia spends all day checking out what is happening on her 'block' by watching out the windows. She has spent most of her life as a spoiled pup, going on car rides and getting pup cups, then her family said - she was being a bully to the other dogs. She is fostered with several dogs of various sizes and both boys/girls. She isn't afraid to be pushy, growl or yip to get her way, but is easily managed by her foster mom verbally correcting her. 'Tunia also likes to play the victim - she needs to be lifted on to the couch, due to being a shortie. The other dogs steal her toys, she yips. When her foster family is not able to immediately address her complaints, she jumps on the couch and snatches back her rope toy. Clearly a smart, sassy bulldog - she just needs boundaries, parenting and mostly tough love. She is 5 years old and a brindle purebred French Bulldog with a white belly. Vaccinated, Spayed, Microchipped, tested Heartworm Negative and on prevention - she is ready to travel to spend 2025 with her forever family.
