Story
#### Nina is a 6 year old Miniature Pinscher who weighs 14 pounds. This beautiful girl is making nice progress at our shelter after coming in very scared. Nina thinks she is a cat: if it fits, she sits. She loves small cozy spaces to rest in. Boxes, cubbies, tunnels, you name it. She loves playtime and being outside. She likes playing with her dog friends and observing people. She has not played with bigger dogs with us as our play groups are based on size, but she will meet your dog of any size at the meet and greet. They need a yard for safe exploration and the fence must be at least 4 feet high. Nina is a flight risk and needs a quiet and predictable environment. For that reason an adult-only home is needed. Nina is very food motivated and that has made a huge difference in her willingness to get near people. She is very nervous with new people and while she is easy to catch for playtime, she doesn't love being carried and is a little sensitive to her back being touched. On the other hand, there have been a few times where she has sought out staff to sit by and has accepted pets at these times. These are still rare occurrences but something to be celebrated. She will follow people around for treats so she knows people have good things to offer her. We have recently discovered after setting up a camera in her kennel that she likes to play with stuffed toys at night! They are her treasures.Nina is a delightful girl who is ready for a patient, quiet and predictable home. As a result, there is often an adjustment period when learning about life as a family pet. We typically do not adopt to homes with young children. Homes with older children will be considered on an individual basis. Common skills such as house training and leash walking will often take a little extra time. Patience, understanding and a gentle hand are a must. The great news is, most of these dogs come around rather quickly and being a part of their rehabilitation is an extremely rewarding experience. Story
Meet Dazzle, Our Watchful DachshundDazzle is a petite female Dachshund, weighing in at just 10 pounds, with a somewhat reserved demeanor. She often prefers the comfort of her bed in the kennel, where she can quietly observe the bustling world around her. Dazzle's curiosity shines through her watchful eyes, and she will cautiously approach new situations, especially if the environment remains calm and undisturbed. She relishes the warmth of the sun on her back and, while not typically in the middle of playful antics, Dazzle enjoys observing from the sidelines and does get along well with other dogs. Although she hasn't received formal training yet, her gentle nature suggests she has great potential to learn and adapt to her future home's routines.Dazzle is patiently waiting at National Mill Dog Rescue for her chance to be a devoted and loyal companion. If you're looking for a sweet soul who thrives in a peaceful environment and promises to be a faithful friend, consider giving Dazzle the loving home she deserves.- - - - - -Prior to being rescued, many of our dogs have experienced minimal socialization.
