She took awhile to warm up to them but once she did, she was fine and they spent time together in the yard. And at a rescue event she met two puppies and was fine with both of them - adjusting to them right away 4/22/24 Foster Feedback: The rescue calls me Captain Janeway but my foster calls me Sadie.  Sadie is very friendly and would be a lapdog if I would let her.  If you are looking for a large breed dog she is the perfect size at 42 pounds and about a year old. Captain Janeway loves all people but has not been around other dogs, cats or small children when with me. She goes to the door when she needs to potty and has never had an accident inside. She is not food orientated but loves praise and attention. Captain Janeway had terrible separation anxiety at first but after working on it, it has pretty much disappeared. She still likes to know where I am but no longer needs to be right beside me.   Captain Janeway sleeps in a kennel by my bed at night and is kenneled in the living room when I am gone. She does bark or whine to let me know it isn't her favorite place but quiets quickly. She would like a fenced in yard as she would be outside 24/7 if she could. She feels her most important job in life is to keep the rabbits out of my yard and to be sure the squirrels stay up in the tree. She did a lot of pacing when she first arrived but now does very little inside but still does outside.   Captain Janeway loves to be groomed as long as you don't spend much time on her tail.  She is getting better at having her teeth brushed. I have a big container of hard and soft toys and bones but she has never taken anything out to play with. She rides well in the car wearing a harness attached to the seatbelt.   Although I have a dog bed or two in every room, Captain Janeway has never slept on them. She prefers the hardwood or tiled floors and no bedding in either kennel. She still needs work on leash walking - wearing a harness helps but she wants to do a figure 8 in front of me.   You will never be sorry adopting Captain Janeway and I would adopt her myself if my age and lifestyle allowed for a dog fulltime. To view additional dogs available for adoption, please see our website: www.4luvofdog.org April 28, 2024, 9:45 pm

She now knows sit, kennel, and touch. We've also been working on loose leash walking and she has been doing well! When Mirage is around the house, all she wants to do is cuddle with one of us or play with the resident dogs. I think she would do great on her own as well. We send the resident dogs to daycare once a week and on those days Mirage loves having all the attention on her.  03/05/2024 Foster Feedback: Mirage is a sweet dog that just wants people to snuggle up on the couch with and to play with. She is potty trained, does great in the house, is dog friendly and good with our kids. Mirage has been in our house for a couple of weeks and is really coming out of her shell. She has started wrestling with the other dogs and getting zoomies in the yard. She especially loves jumping in the snow piles! Her favorite toys are stuffed toys. She will grab a tiny corner of the toy and carry it around the house. Lambchop has been her favorite so far!   ** Mirage is Lyme and Anaplasmosis positive. These are tick-borne illnesses, and she is currently being treated with Doxycycline. Story
Intake Date: 12 January 2024 -------- Age at Intake: 1 years ----- Breed: GSD ----- Size: 45 lbs ----- Status: Pound Pull ----- Compatible with: Dogs, children. Haven't cat tested ----- Suitable for: home with a fenced yard ----- Medical/Behavioral Needs: none noted ----- Additional Notes: Welcome January! This shy girl was found extremely emaciated. She wound up at the pound and was unclaimed. She was all sorts of a mess. Her stomach was rough from eating garbage and whatever she could find so it was a long road getting past the diarrhea and getting her regular and eating well. We finally have solid stools and a great appetite! The pound staff did a great job getting some weight build up on her too. We do believe there is some abuse in her past as she gets pretty nervous with certain things around her neck and waist however we are working to desensitize her and gain trust. She deserves a committed and loving home. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- If interested in meeting and potentially adopting please read the adoption requirements and complete the adoption application located at forbellessake.org. Once processed and approved a meet and greet can be scheduled and if a match an adoption is finalized at that time. Adoption fee is $175 and all dogs are spayed/neutered, vaccinated, microchipped, dewormed, and treated for any known medical needs. Breeds are not guaranteed but often a best guess. Housetraining is not guaranteed but crate training is worked on with all residents. If a yard is present, a secure fence is prioritized.
