Meet Topper! This dapper gentleman came in after a good-hearted citizen found him wandering around. His microchip information did not allow us to locate an owner. We believe he was dumped. Topper laid in his kennel for about a week completely shut down and wondering why he was at the Pound. Then one day he said, "well screw it…my past is my past & now I want a new family." Topper currently weighs about 74 lbs, we think he's around 5 years old and his breed is a mystery. He likes to fetch and will drop the ball for you, passed his kid testing, enjoyed the obstacle course, and will tolerate a bath. Topper needs a home with no cats. One of our volunteers took him to the beach and this is what she had to say. “Topper assured me that even though it was hot out and he was a big old black dog he would love to go and put his toes in the sand, so that is exactly what we did. He walks nicely, he really didn’t react to much of anything. What a good old guy, he reminds me so much of my Beauceron mix. But his tail looks like an Irish wolfhound. He would be a fun one to find out just what he’s made of.” DNA results are in! German Shepherd, Australian Shepherd, Border Collie, and Golden Retriever were some of the 10 breeds detected in Topper's DNA! Meet Shaggy! He's a 91 lb German Shepherd type buy, about 3 years old. This boy has lived a previous wanderlust/all about town lifestyle. He needs a secure yard and enjoys lots of human attention. He recently went up to WA with the Transport Team and rode well in a crate. He free rode in a car recently on his way to the groomer and again did well. NO CATS for Shaggy! Shaggy went on a field trip with our handler and this is what she had to say. “Shaggy puts his front paws on the truck bed and waits for you to lift his hind end in. He’s a little excited to get going, but once we did, he rode very well to town. He enjoyed his time at the park on the 30’ lead, but is unknowledgeable about keeping the line from getting tangled around his legs. His recall is not consistent but is good when he does obey the command and started improving on each call. He did not react to any of the dogs he encountered while in town and showed no aggression towards a Frenchie that ran towards him and past him pulling his person on a scooter. Shaggy is wickedly smart and quick on his leash training while in town, listening to his handlers cues and requests. Most corrections were to keep him from marking territory. He met people respectfully keeping all four feet on the ground, leaning in for affection and gave gentle kisses as well. Shaggy is a kind dog that will attach quickly to his people and be a good family addition." Shaggy is very smart and able to open latched gates with his nose, he needs a consistent, strong handler. This big love is adorable. He does love most other dogs. He is a hard player, but working on his recall. He's just a guy that needed some training. Luckily, this guy is in our Prison Paws Partnership program now. He has 5 more weeks of training and he will be ready.
