Story
Dog friendly — with proper introductions.Cat curious — after a month of coexisting with mine he has finally decided cats may actually exist.Kids? Absolutely not. Avoids them like they are carrying the plague and he`s their targeted victim.Pros:• Smart• Knows basic commands• Loves fetch• Loves quiet trails• Loves slowly murdering stuffed toys• Leash skills improving daily. We’ve reduced the crocodile rolling and army crawling back to the front door...significantly. ??• Quiet--has not been vocal except for some grumbling and whining at times.Cons:• High anxiety• Slow to trust• Struggles HARD with change• Not food motivated unless you possess Super1 yellow American sliced deli cheese. White is accepted only during times of great desperation. ???????What he needs:• Quiet 1-2 person home• Patient people• A yard for zoomies and fetch• Possibly another calm/confident dog to help teach him how to “dog”Now the real story behind Fehler —This dog spent basically his entire life in a shelter environment. From 1 week old until 3 years old.A little over a month ago he transferred to BRHA and came home with me the next day.And honestly? The world is still a terrifying place. All the new sights and sounds. When he first came home every noise sent him into full Scooby Doo mode.Sprinklers.Cars.Wind.Children existing 4 blocks away. The front yard alone took almost 2 weeks to conquer without harness-escaping death rolls and panic spirals. He paced constantly those first several days.Clingy doesn’t even begin to cover it once he chooses his person. This dog wants FULL BODY CONTACT at all times. He becomes a 45lb emotionally damaged weighted blanket. It took him 2 weeks to trust my husband. He still hasn’t bonded with my 10year old.He no longer tries climbing me like a tree when she enters the room though, so… growth. ?????Around week 3 he finally started playing. Now he loves roughhousing, fetch, and carrying every toy he owns to bed each night like a tiny spotted goblin protecting his treasures.I may have also accidentally taught him to throw paws while playing.Which sounded hilarious at the time.Less hilarious during 5am zoomies.Under all the anxiety though? He really is an incredibly good dog.He just needs the right person willing to let him figure the world out at his own pace.If Fehler sounds like your ki
