Story
Norman is a handsome 2-year-old Goldendoodle who deserves the perfect forever home! After spending most of his puppyhood outside on a chain, he has quickly adapted to indoor living thanks to his intelligence, a friendly older dog, and a calm and loving environment with his foster parents! Norman is about 50 pounds but was underweight when he came to Marden’s Ark Dog Tales. He’s gained some weight and may gain some more.
His foster mom describes him as a true intellectual—smart, observant, and FULL of potential! Norman is a quiet, low-key guy and a little shy, due to not having had a lot of structured socialization in his past. He has warmed up to his foster family and is totally trusting them; he’s now working on learning to trust other people. He has learned basic manners in the house and tolerance for a crate. He loves other dogs; we do not know how he would be with cats. His history involves interactions with 12+ children while he was tied up outside; we do not know if these were positive or negative experiences; we are comfortable that he will communicate his desired interactions to the humans he trusts.
Norman is looking for a home with a family who understands the 30/60/90-day adjustment period for a young adult dog. It is to be expected that there should be a small setback in his progress when he transitions to a new home. Being young and so smart, Norman should quickly regain his progress and continue to become a loving family member with the right family.
Ideal for Norman includes:
• parent(s) who are at home each day, whether working from home and active or active retired.
• A 5 or 6 foot fence in the yard, where he can be off leash while still with his family; this is required for this size of dog
• A quiet, calm attentive home with owners who will dedicate time to positive reinforcement training that builds his confidence and keeps his mind actively learning new skills and new ways to interact socially. Canine Good Citizen and AKC Tricks classes would help his bonding to his forever family as well.
• Social time friendly dog and human playmates, and having another calm, friendly, and mature dog in the home is also good bonding since, he learns very quickly by observing other canines.
Since Norman is a Goldendoodle, he does need regular grooming. He has done well at the groomer’s with no issues.
Norman is up-to-date with vaccines, microchipped, and neutered. If you are looking for a smart, sweet companion and are ready to provide a patient, loving environment, Norman is ready to meet you! References will be required.
